I'm having a contest with buddy:

we're picking one keyword each and going to try and make it to #1 in google in 31 days (month of January). this will be focused on a local search, but still pretty competitive.

rules:

  1. max of $100 spending
  2. brand spanking new domain
  3. must be able to last after 31 days, so no drive-bys
  4. competive term
  5. once agreed on keywords both all parties involved, contest begins
  6. winner is declared based on rank on page 1 for keyword, without restrictions: my keyword, not "my keyword", etc

How would you go about doing this?

my rough outline:

  1. do some quick research on keywords/competition
  2. pick one main keyword, with 3 supporting keywords
  3. register domain, with keywords in the domain
  4. set up one page site, that looks somewhat professional
  5. start on linking campaign
  6. get 10 articles spun and start submissions to article directories
  7. [do shit that i can't mention here]
  8. [put in anti-competitive operation]

Does a local business listing popping up on page one count? If so, seems like the absolute easiest path to victory.

if it's a low comp keyword, some red_virus links will carry you most of the way. Get a few ezine and hubpage and squidoo links after that and you should be good to go
