Links from blogs & social bookmarking sites for higher SERP rankings

Right now my site is on page 3 of Google for my main keyword and I have only 4 back links. The #1 site on Google for my main keyword has 415 back links. I'm gunning for that #1 spot but before I order the advanced pack does anyone know if there is anyway this technique of getting so many back links quickly can get my site penalized or banned on Google? Also, I just ordered a 100 social bookmarks package from another Wicked Fire member yesterday...assuming your package post to some of the same social bookmark sites as the other member's package...is there any danger or pitfalls to having duplicate links for my website posting on the same social bookmarking site within days of each other? Forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question but I'm not up to speed on this social bookmarking shit yet.
