My friends from Tennessee and Georgia say "SAR" instead of "sir" though, so I see what you mean.

Clarification: That's because FL isn't part of 'the south' and does not have a 'southern culture'

The same could be said for Atlanta as it is today.

No one eh. How about the ceremony of people being knighted as a "Sir" by your queen and then referred to as sir? That would probably be classified a british formality since it happens there.
