LOOKING FOR JV MARKETING PARTNER - Backup Software
I am in the midst of programming backup software similar to this popular remote backup software: http://pastebin.com/3gp77CCh (copy paste from the text box on page)
Initially my software won't compete on features (mostly their ability to version files), so I am counting on the fact many haven't heard of other providers like them (not many from what I can see). However it will do delta style backups (uploading only parts of a file that changed for quickness), a scheduler, easy to use etc.
Current plans are to target small businesses with quickbooks etc (and people like yourself with important files). The software will initially run on Windows, future versions will also run on Mac and Linux too. It has been coded from scratch to deal with other platforms (with some tweaks).
I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
- Has a degree in Marketing (or at least a huge amount of real world experience on Internet AND offline)
- Pretty much an expert on making converting PPC campaigns
- Can advise me on other strategies (I have some telemarketers I might get on board to see if any signups
- Advise on website structure and copy.
- Very important - advise on competing effectively with others in the market, analyze competitors, provide me with information on how to better, be it price war, more features, better website, whatever. You are the marketing expert I am the programming expert.
- Has initiative and drive. I need to see a purpose for having you.
- Not a free rider. I don't want one skype "hi" a week with a link to some bullshit website and job done. That's GTFO sign for me.
- Have A BIT of money. As a JV you need to chip in 50% of costs (for 50% of profit). Most of the cost will be gaining clientele. Depends on your strategies to be honest.
Timeline for all of this etc:
This is a long term project for me, I hope it will always be around and popular, and handsomely profitable.
I do not expect huge time investments from the suitable person as I can't even give it more than 10 hours of attention a week at the moment (generally). Things will heat up as it nears completion. I am probably 2 months off a stable public ready Windows version. Then another 2 weeks for a pimp website ready for buyers. I'd say a few hours of quality from you a week would be a good start.
Current marketing plan:
Will sell backup's on a subscription basis. Initially via Paypal and a little later via credit card as well (I am a big believer in keeping costs right down until proven)
My how to get clientele plan:
Cold calling and PPC. End of marketing plan (mostly). Although I'm PPC Google certified and a damn good copywriter, I clearly suck at marketing someone needs to step in and take over. All my marketing is from the school of hard knocks. I am still in the dark about many things I'd say. I make sound business decisions but I'm a software developer by trade.
What you can expect
I will build the website (I build pro websites as a side income - hire out the design - code it etc)
I will write most of the copy (unless you want to - maybe you should to keep it all inline with whatever you want to do)
I will setup the subscription software (something like amemberpro)
I will obviously develop the software and put what you consider critical features for competing etc based on your market research or whatever
What you shouldn't expect
Access to the source code any time soon (trust needs to be established first, I need to see you are the man when it comes to market research / advertising / whatever else marketers do and won't vanish etc). Will be a few months realistically. I put in so many research and programming hours and this shit was so damn near impossible to code not even rentacoder cut it so I am quite antsy about handing the source to anyone without real trust there.
Cost to you
As a JV partner, a lot of the cost will be from things you instigate (PPC etc / offline mail outs...whatever), you are to pay 50% of the costs of advertising as long as I agree, otherwise if you have something outlandish I feel is too risky or I am too naive to think will work (advertising backup services on a gardening website or something), you pay most or all of it. Final monthly profit still comes back to you at 50% so if you have faith in yourself and it works out, you still profit. And next time I pay 50%.
This is a new project not a guarantee of anything. You come into this understanding there's risk. If we both do our job right we'll come out winners. Other costs: hosting and backup storage costs are not huge and I will pay for them initially.
Payment to you
Once everything is setup and live, I can code a quick script on checkout so one payment subscription goes to you (for the length of time of the customer), and next goes to me. Repeat. That sorts out payment. Current plan is first year (from launch date) equal split of profit 50/50. After which, your percentage will slowly degrade unless you are still actively involved. The lowest it will ever drop to (and this is very generous and a token of thanks for your initial help) is 1-2%. Sounds like chump change, but for the luxury of doing fuckall ever again and getting paid kind of like a glorified share holder forever) that's a magnificent deal. I plan on this having thousands of customers. We will negotiate this stuff later this is just so you have an idea of what to expect payment wise. Once things get serious will sign stuff.
INTERESTED?
PM me a brief outline of who you are and what you can bring to the table and a method of contact: Skype / MSN / AIM / Email (in order of preference) and we will take it from there.
You can ask generic questions here if you want, please keep the more private questions to PM. Thanks for reading!
