Question

What do you guise think is better plan to make money. Do you go after money itself, or do you pursue your dream and hope that the world will transfer some of the $ your way as their way of sayin "thank you bro".

Do people who want to make money just to make money burn out eventually?

Do all people who honestly, 100% follow their heart end up in the gutter? Or if you dig the hole long enough you get somewhere eventually?

Howard Stern is worth more than any IM guru out there, yet all he ever did is followed his dream of talkin shit on the radio.

How do people balance between these 2 shits?

Devoting your life to something you love to do is for people who have secured their existence minimum. What is sad is that a lot of people forget that they got in into something they hate just to secure that minimum and never stop doing it, thus wasting their lives(in my opinion).

Makes cents. Sell out now, live life later. Problem is, people want to make it as quick as possible to get out there and live. Dam.

It makes no sense to compare the success of Howard Stern limited to the field of "IM". It would make much more sense to drop the M and compare Stern to include everyone who has created websites or website-based services. Multiple individuals have earned billions dollars in this area.

The idea of the world throw you money as a "thank you" is actually not that far off from the truth. However, the world doesn't thank you for doing what you love, it thanks you for adding value. Sometimes the two coincide, sometimes they don't. If no value is added, don't expect to have success "out of nowhere" that you did not engineer.

For example, imagine your undying passion is trolling the wickedfire forums. You might troll the shit out of the boards, pouring your heart into every post and racking your tiny brain for each last word, but I doubt you'll ever make money doing that. Eventually you'll end up just getting banned.

First of owl, Im not trolling.

Secondly, what is Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton adding to the world? Why do they deserve such exuberant monetary rewards? For what?

OK, after your tenth post I have to ask. What the fuck is up with your spelling? Get a fucking spell checker or stop trying to look cool with super spelling. What are you 13?

Personally the people I know who are "artists" or pursuing their passions are not even close to being financially independent.

Entertainment. Whether its entertaining to you is irrelevant.

This is all you need to know.

If you have to choose between making money and doing what you love... you're doing it wrong. Find a way to make money doing what you love. Or cut out the middle man and fall in love with money. Yeah yeah shallow blah blah but I'll take all the disgust at my materialism with a grain of salt, on the rim of my giant margarita when I'm on my third vacation this year.

And anyways... Why all this Catholic guilt about money? If any of you are feeling guilty about making money then find a way to give back. Charity is good for character (and a tax write off for those of you who pay taxes.) Or just send me all that extra, guilt-inducing sinful money. I'll pay for a mass in your honor.

Luckily I love advertising and marketing, it isn't my dream to die as a rich marketing nerd but I will need my expertese in marketing if I intend to make my dream come true. Plus money isn't the motive, it is just an essential resource that will be greatly usefull when it comes to executing my plans lol.

When I get a new client; I don't think "yay I've made more money", I think "yay, I'm 1 step closer to where I want to be". Like someone said above, we don't get rewarded for doing things we love, we get rewarded for providing something valuable.

I am currently in the process of altering my business model to free up time to actually do what I love.

It's a balancing act but I think the best course of action is to make as much money as possible in a short amount of time and then reinvest that money in passive income and then focus on what you really like to do.

There are people like Howard Stern who chased the dream and hit it big but then the path is littered with 1000 Howard Stern wannabes who crashed and burned. I respect anyone who chases the dream (rather than someone who never tries and settles) it's almost never a financially sound decision and takes balls. I did it too and pretty much went broke. Unless your dream only involves making money, then carry on!
