Making Money through Craigslist & Dating Affiliates Using Yahoo Messenger & Blogs

Just thinking out loud...so hear me out...

I know the whole post a personal ad on CL and then send a dating affiliate link thing has been discussed to death. But I was thinking of a variation on it that might convert better and lets you build in more revenue possibilities.

Here's what I was thinking:

1. Setup a Blogspot blog for a good looking (not model) girl.

Go onto Myspace or just Google Image Search and find a cute girl who's not overly hot but attractive and believable. If you can find an existing blog for a girl who fits that description, even better.

Save several pictures of her to your computer. If she has a blog, then copy some of her blog posts to make less work on yourself.

Go to Blogspot.com and create a new blog for this girl. Make it look like a girl's blog (girly colors/template and what not). In this blog, post once a day for a week. Make the posts sound like they're from a 20-something girl. Talk about hanging out/partying, what interesting things she supposedly does, etc.

After several days worth of posts...make a post about trying out a dating site (Match.com, FF.com, Mate1, whatever). Say something like, "I wouldn't have ever thought I'd be trying to date on the internet, but here I am. And it's actually not bad". At the end of the blog post, give a link (affiliate link run through TinyURL.com, I guess) and say what her name is on that site.

2. Create a Yahoo Messenger account for this fake girl

3. Post ad(s) on Craigslist, with slight variations, saying that you're testing the waters of dating again and that you'd like to chat over Yahoo Messenger first before giving out an email or phone #. I dunno, something like that. Include the Yahoo Messenger screen name in the CL ad.

4. Login to Yahoo Messenger with that account and immediately set the status to "away". The away message could say that you're out shopping, meeting up with some friend...whatever. Also have beneath that have a hyperlinked "I'm blogging" or "My blog - I'm such a geek!" or something that links to that Blogspot blog.

Just leave it continually on "away" status and forget about it.

5. Wait for curious/interested guys to try & message you on Yahoo, get the away message, and decide to check out your blog. Hope that they stay curious, read your blog, and see the post about the dating site. Hope that they click through and join. I guess a free trial offer that pays would be ideal here (any suggestions?? I'm new to this). Maybe even mention something to that effect in the blog post about it.

6. Create more Yahoo Messenger accounts (a new one for each city) and post a variation of that same CL ad with the unique YM account in different cities. Leave all of the accounts logged into Yahoo Messenger (using Y! Multi Messenger) and all set the same way as in step #4.

Some other possibilities for the blog:
  • AdSense
  • Create a post about how your friend made a screensaver for you of some sexy pictures and say he/she gave you a link to it. Make a screensaver with pictures of this girl and then bundle the screensaver install with a Pay Per Install software (Luxecash or some other).
Like I said - just thinking out loud. Critique my idea, please. I have no idea if this would work any better than the other methods people have posted before. I just thought it seemed more realistic and would draw in the curious pervert to allow you monetize somehow.

Interesting concept. I'm sure it would work to an extent, dunno how long these types of scams will last. Setting up a bot for a faux-conversation might be a better way to go.

Also might say that this seems like a ton of work. What I would do differently:

Just register ONE Yahoo Messenger name.

Register a domain name and setup a blog yourself.

Setup a blog on your own domain with a wildcard subdomain. Have the subdomain be a city name, and then pass that through in various parts of the blog. i.e. orlando.bloggergirl.com, and then in parts of the blog "Just a single girl from <?=$subDomain?> trying to find love" or something like that. Keep the posts nice and generic enough to not designate a specific geographical location.

A lot less work involved then.

Damn Slacker Guy Skivey as hell but it has promise...take it out of the 'dating' world and see what you get?

aim,

decent.

slackerguy,

telling brother in college (got more free time) to get it going, I'll keep you updated.

Just register ONE Yahoo Messenger name.
The reason I suggested a different Yahoo Messenger account name for each city is because I was thinking CL might flag ads in different cities including a common account name like that in the post. Also why I said vary the CL ad just ever so slightly in each city, along with using a unique YM account name.

But maybe that's not necessary.

Would anyone recommend a better source than CL to post personal ads on? I just know it gets a ton of traffic, but probably has the most jaded user base.

Where in CL would you post it? You know ERS is going through the ringer right now, next to impossible to get an ad up. I believe phone numbers are a requirment now. (I don't do ERS, personally, so I'm not sure, but that's what the word is)

is craigslist reporting affiliates for this? Just saying, that would suck to rack up 3 k and lose it.

For what it's worth I agree that it's really shady but you're not going to get much sympathy here.

Anyways, I think that's why CL is cracking down on the ERS section cause most of it's fake and the rest is illegal (prostitutes).

I'm just saying it because I just blacklisted one of my pubs who sent me 400+ dating leads like this...

When the advertiser forwards the ad to you where the CL poster makes claims of "register for this site, and then PM me and we can meet up and get a coffee!" .... it's pretty embarrassing.

Damn people are stupid, who actually believes and signs up for that crap? You almost think they deserve the scam (almost.)

i dont fuck with cl but if u want some adult dating try datinggold.com 4 bucks a free lead
