Man Trapped in His Own Body for 23 years.

Oh my God, that's the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone.

Major props to his Mom for never giving up and finally helping him.

"“He lives from day to day,” his 73-year-old mother said. “He can be funny and happy,” but is also given to black humor." Haha that's awesome. I bet you either turn into a bitter bitter fucker or learn to develop one sick sense of humor in that situation.

I think there was a movie called Serpent and the Rainbow that death with this sorta thing.
Also, remember that not too long ago (100+ yrs ago) there were supposedly many burials of people they thought were dead. But they were not. The reason they know this is because upon excavation they'd often see scratch marks on the inside of their coffin. Or is that an Urban legend? Hmmm..

No, not an urban legend. They would set up a bell next to fresh graves, with a string running down to the casket. That way, if you woke up dead (where that expression came from) you could ring your bell and get dug up.

Ya I read this article this morning. I am still trying to understand how
I would be able to deal with that if I had been in his situation. It's
mind boggling...

The article notes he wants to come out with a book. I would definitely
want to read that book. He went through like 23 years of straight
meditation :P. Just think of what kind of ways he must of come up
with to try and pass the time...

Mind boggling...

Wouldn't you suffocate long before having a chance to ring that dang bell?

The expression "Saved by the bell" also originates from this.

The wealthier dead would have a glass window attached to something like a mini chimney leading up from their casket to above the ground, so the gravekeeper could, after hearing the bell, confirm they were still alive.

It's also where the expression "Graveyard Shift" came from. It was assigned to the people who would patrol the Graveyards at night to make sure those bells didn't ring.

Makes you wonder about Terri Shiavo...but I'm sure she was in a PVS since clearly their diagnostic skills are unassailable.

It's fairly rich that the pro-euthanasia crowd doesn't even realize the implications here. Or maybe they do, but hope nobody notices.

Makes YOU wonder about Terri Schiavo, everyone else knows she was 100% PVS. Endless hours of footage edited properly could make a mule look smarter than a human. She also had a dried up cerebral cortex, so even IF she could think she couldn't.

Of course, there is nothing more humane than causing the death of a person with perfectly functioning liver, kidneys, lungs, and heart by starvation and dehydration against the wishes of her parents. Allow me to humbly concede the moral high ground.

You'd want to live?
