Someone has to be on top. There is no equality. I'd rather it be me than my chick. And quite frankly, I'm glad I'm white and that I live in the USA. Not that being female, another race or from another country makes you inferior, it just means that you don't have a few of the advantages I have. And sometimes it's fucking awesome to have those advantages.

Wow I'm surprised how most of you missed the point. The point wasn't about women (and this coming from the woman who posted it) It was about freeing yourselves from the restraints of society to be whomever you are. If you really are a person with no feelings and emotions...or whatever it was that Eli was going on about it, then that's ok. It's also ok not to be that and still be a man. It was very inspiring to me because we're all put in these boxes, as parents, as friends, sons, and daughters, wives and husbands and it will really fuck with your head and then your relationships.

The simple point is don't put yourself in a box.

True. But along with that, we must have the right to associate with whomever we please. Here's an example:

In my family, the women are emotional. The men are not. The women know that bringing drama to the men will reflect poorly on them. The expectation has been set. Got a problem you need resolved? Great. Men in my family (and the world over) love solving problems. Got bullshit drama about your sister's husband, and need someone to listen? You'll have better luck elsewhere. I love you, but I won't suffer foolishness.

Another example:

If I run a company and choose not to hire women, or choose to pay them less than men, that should be my right. My company, my property, my right. Running to a thug (state) is laughable. Ridiculous. It has the same effect on a man's perception of women as professionals as most of us perceive Al Sharpton as a crusader for equal rights. He is laughable. Ridiculous.

Yes, we should be individuals. But that means being able to choose the people we hang with, have sex with, hire, fire, and love. Sounds intuitive, but if anything, men and women force each other to fit into boxes.

There is no prison. It's just a made-up standard that paints femininity as liberated, and masculinity as imprisoned.

Women are equally imprisoned. Imprisoned by fears about their attractiveness and social value. Imprisoned by their desperation to marry a man and bear children. Imprisoned by a craving for financial and material security, or a comfortable standard of living. Imprisoned by an addiction to emotional experiences that destabilize their lives and relationships.

Except there's no woman telling a story about how her "womanbox" prison drove her to some over the top behavior like anorexia, gold-digging or octomomming.

Just my two cents.

i couldn't make it all the way through the video but whats wrong with acting like a guy? The whole its not fair whining bullshit pisses me off. Girls have certain advantages as females and are encouraged to take advantage of them, and being a guy has certain advantages and we're not supposed to take advantage because its unfair for girls because they don't have those advantages. IMO guys need to start acting more like guys, this whole metrosexual fad and guys acting like total pussies is ridiculous. Fuck that if you're a guy act like a guy. You can bang as many chicks as you want, be trusted with positions of power, buy expensive toys, spoil and disciplining your kids, beat up assholes, get rowdy, go out and have fun at night without fear of being raped and mugged, forget birthdays and anniversaries, do yard work instead of cooking and cleaning, play video games for days straight, not have to spend hours putting on makeup every morning, clothes are cheap, not have periods or emotions to deal with, and have a built in sense of humor. And don't forget when being masculine is an advantage to them like fixing stuff or lifting something heavy chicks are all for it, but when the same trait is not at that moment an advantage to them they call it chauvinist.

Plus why the fuck would we want emotions? They sound like a pain in the ass. I'm glad my guy friends don't display their emotions to me and I'd have to be sensitive and deal with them on it. Fuck that noise. If a few beers and wrecking some shit can't fix your emotional problems then go home. Next time some asshole is trying to convince you to give up all your guyvantages because its unfair to girls remind him that girls have plenty of their own advantages and beat him up just because you can and no one will think any less of you for it; Cus you're a fuckin guy.

This is like the 2011 equivalent of the Henry V speech to the troops.

Do yourself a man-favor and play that clip at full blast RIGHT NOW.

Theoretically, no one should ever be restricted to any boxes. That being said, there shouldn't be any flack given to the guys who CHOOSE to remain within the manbox vs. guys that do not. You can even think of it as
a box-within-a-box-within-a-box-within-a-box:

Guys will be guys... it's fucking awesome to be a man to be honest. But I also think you should have a capacity to step outside your manbox if the situation calls for it.

I couldn't agree more. Everyone should have the right to be who they are without fear of repercussion. However...

The reason it seems like women can never figure out what they want in a man is because depending on where they are at in their cycle, what they want can be completely different. But you can be sure that when a woman wants to fuck, she's not looking for a pussy. Therefore as a man, if you want to fuck women, there is no advantage to being a pussy. This is why we have evolved the way we have, and also why that video is complete bullshit.

UG smashed the fuck out of the head of the nail right there. And the thing is, guys who are more pusillanimous still desperately want to have sex with chicks that are way out of their league. They are going to have to either sacrifice who they really are in pursuit of sex with beautiful women or be themselves and be relegated to whatever they can get.

I would imagine that most guys in this category at least attempt to do the former.

And really, what makes us so much better than animals? If everything we do can be stripped down to the basic principles of either finding the ideal person to bone or appearing as boneable as possible?

Can't we all just embrace nature?

In short: let yourself hang free. :p

Point not about women? Then why is he at TEDwomen...talking to a bunch of women? Think he missed his target market there...Either he's got some mad game, or maybe hes just priming himself for the Regular Tedtalks?

Holy shit. Didn't even notice that. Dude is telling women that men should change.

Agreed on the first part: "Women are equally imprisoned" Hit or miss on the rest of what you said.

My biggest challenges has just been breaking out of who I thought I'm supposed to be based on 30+ years of social conditioning. And while I've managed to say a big Fuck You to the world, without even realizing it, sometimes I internalize it and still feel guilt/inadequate if I'm not living up to that "womanbox". That's when I get really pissed. Sneaky fucks.

Amen Eli.

This will be the 100th time I've recommended this book here, and hopefully someone will someday read it. It's absolutely incredible and will explain to you more about life and human nature than any father or YouTube ever will:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Red-Queen-Evolution-Human-Nature/dp/0140245480]Amazon.com: The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature (9780140245486): Matt Ridley: Books[/ame]

But I agree with not boxing yourself in. Just because I'm a man doesn't mean I am not allowed to cower when I watch some dude cut his arm off. Cuz that's exactly what I did last night when watching 127 Hours. But if you want to be a successful man, being a pussy ain't gonna get the job done either.

What's wrong with the womanbox? I mean yeah, it's wrong for women to be obsessed and paranoid and flip out over their looks, but what's wrong with valuing what men value, just as men give women what women value?

You lost me. Giving men what men value and men giving women what women value? I'm talking about a personal journey, not what other people can give me.
