Maryland Meetup?

Dammit Bofu. I would so be up for traveling for a meetup/vacation. However, after anything more than three inches of snow on the ground, the state of North Carolina sets itself into panic mode and shuts down everything ever.

If we had what you have right now, we'd be in a state of national emergency, ripping crying people out of their houses for resuscitation and media publicity.

Papajohn for confirmation?

Edit for Keith: You're in Chattanooga? What do you think about the new Volkswagenheim plant? My uncle is one of the main engineers helping build the place.

Confirmed. Here in South Carolina, it's closer to 1/4 inch. everyone runs to walmart for blizzard supplies, shits their pants, car accidents all over, people driving into ditches

Count me in. The above pics are awesome, BTW. I'd take some myself but my cell is dead. I'm snowed in at work right now, I work at a hospital and almost nobody is traveling in or out. Over a hundred of us are camping out in different areas of the hospital at the moment. I'm on an old non-functional stretcher hidden away in an administrators office for example. This storm has turned out to be pretty lucrative for me, actually... we're being forced to work 12 hours on, 12 hours off, all at time and a half pay + free food and $100/day for sleeping here, until the roads are cleared. Heck, if they paid me this well every day then I would not be doing IM on the side. (Works out to be 225% of my normal pay + food and $100/day. Oh, and I don't have to pay for gas to drive here. ) We have virtually no new patients being admitted, so technically I have been getting paid to work on the site that I plan on flipping this week.

The blizzard is pretty brutal. I just got power back, but before that it was 50 degrees inside the house.

I'm down for either place.

chea. Completely.

Holy fuck.

Not to bogard Bofu's thread, but cool. Chattanooga hasn't seen as much of of the economic problems as the rest of the US because of the industry here. The Wagenheim plant will just strengthen the the local economy. There is another car plant being built not too far from here too.

It's all good.

Dude. just don't invite him to the soirée. What's the tally of people showing up, btw, and will this be a JV workshop or just a social meetup?

As soon as we finalize where it's going to be, I'll do a meetup.com for it - that usually will help keep it a tad organized. So whats everyone thinking in regards to places - panera or the burger place?

How I see it - panera is almost the perfection function for it with free wifi, coffee etc, but lacks Alcohol. Burger place is ballin but haz no outlets and we would look retarded if we even have 1 laptop there.

Personally I'm leaning towards Panera but that's just me. We can always hit the burger place on the 2nd one.

As for JV workshop or social meet, it's a little of everything. My whole goal is just to see if we can get the MDers knowing each other a little bit more - if it works out and people want to do a JV on something, that'd be cool. When I went to Ian's Meetup202 in Jersey it ended up being both for me.

Edit: and yes I did ask 3 times what you all think. So there.

So what's everyone's verdict with the placement, panera or burger place? I have absolutely no problem with it being the burger place on the 2nd go, and just do Panera first because it's a sure fire win. That's how I see it ...

chea. Completely.

Edit: [CRAZY SNOW PIC]

I was just gonna say, aren't you guys in 2 feet of snow right now? Was just talking to my cousin in Laurel.

Sounds like a WF snow mobile meetup is in order!

The UK comes to a halt in 2 freaking inches of snow...

Panera sounds cool. Problem is that they're forecasting more snow midweek and again next weekend so I may be snowed in at work (in Baltimore) again, or at least obligated to stay here overnight and wait for the following shift to show up (if they do). Non-locals might not want to make a trip if more snowfall accumulates on top of the 24+ inches of snow we have now. It might be a bit early, but if anyone wants to set up something like this baltimorenode.org with a blackhat seo spin on it, I'd be in. A half dozen people or so coordinating with linkfarm evolution and/or a local server farm co-op could do some serious damage.

I'm game for this. My condo has enough room for 3-4 people to crash for a weekend and I've got a sunroom as an office, so I have the room and a new dedi coming on Tuesday with enough power to handle almost anything we throw at it...

The snow looks interesting I think the weekend should be fine, according to weather.com theres no snow for the weekend.

Weather.com has been useless for the past few days. The National weatehr service agrees on the weekend forecast, but "a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.
* Precipitation type... snow.
* Accumulations... potential for 8 or more inches of snow. There is
a good likelihood of snow in excess of 10 inches."

So I'm going to count on spending tomorrow night at the hospital, but the weekend might work for me. You said you have a dedi coming on line - are you keeping that at home or somewhere else? Someone from baltimorenode.org told me that we might be able to get a 600 square foot workspace for $300/month but they use shared comcast line for internet. I didn't realize that prices for a workspace in downtown Baltimore were so cheap. Running a hackerspace styled nonprofit would be a good way to organize meetups and share resources.
