Mathematician May Reject $1 million award

Seems like he's just extremely anti-social.
There's a thin line between brilliance and insanity.

he won a fields medal and didnt show up. wow. i learned about the poincare conjecture in college in my topology class. interesting stuff. cant believe he won a fields medal and didnt show up to accept it. really weird.

Perelman was honored for proving the Poincare (pwan-kah-RAY) conjecture, which deals with shapes that exist in four or more dimensions, rather than the familiar three dimensions. The conjecture proposes a test for determining whether a shape in such space, no matter how distorted, is a three-dimensional sphere.
This stuff makes my head hurt just trying to comprehend it at the most basic levels. To actually go and prove it.... the dude must literally have a brain the size of a planet (possible in multi dimesional space?)

Surely he could take the money and then donate it to some non-evil foundation he believes in. All that math and no common sense

The guy is in his 40's and still lives with his mother, he obviously has some issues...

"MAAAAAAAAA! MEATLOAF! I WANT IT NOW!!! MAAAA?"

Sometimes its such a bad thing to be brainy :-P.....you miss out on such great opportunities....i would not have done that..but i also know for sure that no one would have offered me any such thing :-(

maybe hes just using u sheeps for the lulz and then does what every russian millionaire does: move to london and get a bentley.

When they asked him how many friends he had to divide the money with.... and overflow error occurred.

mother fucker seriously needs to trim his shit.

There's no reason they can't donate the money for him, since he doesn't want anything to do with it. He rejected a Fields Medal before and now a million dollars - maybe he's just really principled and doesn't think you can put a price on this shit. Maybe he thought the whole idea of a Fields Medal had too much political bullshit attached to it.

Some people just have a different value system then the rest of us. I would have not only taken the million, I would have put that Field's Medal up on eBay and cashed out but I'm not very principled either.
