1. ( as has been mentioned) One of the "protesters" was a veteran of the Iraq war. A person McCain, who hates America and veterans, would rather pretend doesn't exist.
2. Cindy mcCain is a known drug addict who stole from her own non-profit to support her drug habbit. As a libertarian, I dont care about her pill problem, but the hypocrisy is McCain is a staunch Drug Warrior who wants to imprison dying cancer patients for using marijuana ( even in states with legal medical marijuana- McCain is a big government socialist who opposes federalism, among other things).
She also claims to be an "only child" which is apparently offensive to her less well-off half-siblings. I only bring this up because "the right" has tried to make a fuss over Obama' lack of relationship with his Kenyan half brothers. Between this and mcCain's philandering, no one wins the "family values" in this race.
3. McCain considers himself a "Teddy Roosevelt Republican" which should be enough to make anyone vommit. Another label is "National Greatness Conservative." Which roughly translates to "national socialist." Anyone who hates Dems for big government and socialist cannot seriously support McCain. McCain's only difference with a socialist Democrat is the degree of spending and occupation and shifting them to different areas.
4. McCain was a POW and went through a lot of shit, obviously. He should be thanked for his service. He ranks a hell of a lot higher than GWB and the cabal of neoconservative chickenhawks. However, this is no more reason to make him president than being mayor while his city was attacked, having "9/11" on a loop, lisping and spitting when he speaks is a reason for wanting Rudy Giuliani.
5. McCain is ignorant on economics. He has admited as such and said that Phil Gramm speaks for him. When Phil Gramm actually does speak for him, well that doesnt work so well. His response to "free trade" is " I don't want to trade burkas"
6. McCain prides himself on his bi-partisan legislation, which is is always a BAD sign. Being bi-partisan means working together to get the worst of both worlds passed. We don't really need ANY new laws. About the worst thing government does is when they feel they need to be "doing something." Gridlock is probably the most desired outcome. When a Republican is willing to work with Democrats on anti-speech legislation and just about everything else that comes along. McCain Feingold anti-free political speech is essentially an Incumbent Protection Act.
7. McCain has some GOOD points, but he has pretty much worked to distance himself from them. I understand this is politics. But in other cases not so much. He was initially correct on the foreclosure and mortgage bailout issues and a few things like that before he flipped to the socialist side. He once called the Religious Right "agents of intolerance"- now he goes along with their bigotry.
8. McCain can take shots at Obama for his lack of private sector experience, yet McCain has essentially lived off taxpayers for over 50 years. He is a permanent government employee. I understand some people ( a certain brand of socialists) have a military fetish, but the fact is he has never had to have a job or compete in the private sector in his life. Third generation Naval Academy who followed Jack in the Washington DC political insider bullshit. Then he used his POW story and connections to get a 25 year gig in the US Senate.
At first you might look at Cindy McCain and think, well she's rich and though she didnt do anything to earn it ( I have no problem with inheritance and oppose estate taxes) someone in her family was probably a good businessman. True to an extent. Except that her family basically made money from a government protected monopoloy with exclusive distribution rights to a powerful drug. Beer distributorships are a function of government connections and political favors. The business model depends on regulation as well as the prohibition of less harmful drugs.
Yet the McCains can call the Obamas, a lower class couple that worked their way through law school, elitists?
This is a guy who made a living off political and military connections paved by his grandparents and parents. He spent a lot of his childhood in DC where his dad had a political military appointment, and his mother threw cocktail parties for Congressmen. A poor student, he got into the Naval Academy as a legacy and somehow did not get kicked out. He cheated on his wife with an heiress. Then married the heiress and lives a lifestyle of great wealth ( as a REAL capitalist I LOVE wealth, so that's not a criticism).
I am NOT voting for Obama. But the problem is just about any criticism of the "Obama narrative" applies just as much or more to John Sidney McCain, and on the areas of the size of government, economics, civil liberties- McCain is hardly better and sometimes worse. I would say it's almost a wash.
I probably won't vote at all or I might vote for Bob Barr. I would say the 2 major candidates are both worthless, but keep things in perspective.
There is nothing so positive about McCain or Obama imho, that the other winning will make much of a difference. But I think there might be a few more positives by default with Obama- those are the positives that come along with halting the era of the neoconservative and stalling the momentum of any "national greatness teddy roosevelt conservative" bullshit. That shit is far worse and more evil than soft Democratic socialism from a conservative/constitutionalist perspective.
