We are starting a campaign with a network that needs me to provide a "Unique URL", so that they in turn can provide a tracking pixel that I place in my confirmation page.

Here are the instructions they provided:

----------------

Instructions for Pixel Setup

Provide a Unique URL

What to embed in the URL:

Ø Provide a variable for publisher id

Ø Provide a variable to pre-populate first name, last name, and email address (if applicable).

Example of a typical URL:

http://www.domain.com/?<pubid>=< >&<fname>=<>&<lname>=<>&<email>=<>

Once you have provided the URL, you will receive a pixel to place on your confirmation page.
--------------

We have no programming experience in-house.

The network running the program tried explaining it to me,
but I still don't get it. They told me I should get a programmer's help.

I have searched Google & forums, but can't find anything that specifically explains how to write the unique URL.

Please help. thx

I'm assuming you're giving me shit; not a serious inquiry.

Actually he wasent its quiet hard to give you the correct answer without knowing how your website is set up to handle this type of URL, is the URL being created dynamically, how is your website programmed? PHP, ASP.NET, regular HTML.

What type of database are you using MySql?

Now the variable for the publisher id also depends how your programming the page because if your using ASP.NET (Just an example) then we need to know if your using a code behind file which contains VB.NET or C++ because they basically are saying x = pubid or something similar.

Its confusing that you would have to go through all of this work on your own just to create a URL, most networks already have a pre-set tracking url and their website does the rest, they are basically asking you to do everything yourself.

My suggestion would be to listen to them and find a programmer, now I hope you at least know which programming language was used to create your site because then someone from here can step forward and say I'm experinced in that area I can help you this is the info I require.

I am experinced in ASP.NET 2.0 but not in PHP so there is a real barrier for me to give you a correct answer to this question.

Ah, what a relief....thank you thank you thank you!
I thought i was just going to get pummeled in here but
you have already helped me immensely. Now I am seeing
the big picture.

Our site is plain, static
HTML, created by me. Our order page, however, is hosted by
Ordermotion.com, which does connect to a database. They
call their cart a 'Smartpage'. I will ask them
how the cart is programmed, then reveal that here, and perhaps I
can hire someone here to get me through this.

Thanks again for your time...much appreciated.

I wasn't giving you shit - I was trying to figure out your level of knowledge so I could give you a decent answer.

You need to contact ordermotion and explain the sitution.

I apologize Rob...i feel like a asshat now...
I was just reading some of the noob advice threads
before I posted, and I guess I was over-geared to be
defensive, fearing that I was just gonna get raked
over the coals. I thought you meant that how could
I have brains to put together a page at all if I could
not understand what i was presenting, when in actuality,
you were truly trying to help...
Uh, not a good beginning for me here on WF.

Anyway, I do appreciate your advice. I have submitted
a support ticket w/ Ordermotion and have been talking
with a programmer, and I think a resolution is near.

I posted it on abestweb, but no replies after several days.
I actually discovered this forum by reading a thread on ABW
