Merchant processing, non re-bill

I've read a ton of threads on here about the latest and greatest companies to use for re-bill type processing but what about the other end of the spectrum. I've got a few meetings setup with fairly large regional banks that have said they can provide the services but I'm worried that I'm looking in all the wrong places.

If all goes as planned, we'll be doing 1k+ transactions/day within the next 6 months and they'll vary anywhere from $10 to $400. Scalability will most likely be important. I'm hiring a programmer within the next few month who will hopefully bring some merchant setup knowledge with them but obviously flexibility from the merchant processor will be key. I'm sure most of them offer dozens of hosted/self-hosted options and different types of setups.

Anyone care to enlighten me or possibly point me in the right direction?

For the trouble gents...

An ugly bleached-blond sorority wannabe showing cleavage does not = tits.

A better pic might yield better results and help.

But I have nothing useful to add.

Excuse any ignorance, but since when did applying for merchant accounts require peer insight?? Paypal is a merchant of some shape. If you've ever signed up to Paypal successfully, chances are you're going to be just fine signing up with anything else..

Unless you're meaning to become an actual merchant yourself?

In that case-

Programmers are not so hard to find, or even necessary past certain degrees. After you've found your bank, they will have backend connection kits or even premade APIs available for implementation on your end. This has to be coded into your sales front just once, with possibly some misc. maintenance within the first 1-2 months. Afterwords you don't really need a programmer for this job. If you know decent php and/or c#/++ you can 99% do it yourself.

hosted/self-hosted -- again I'm not sure if you're applying for a merchant account, or if you're becoming a merchant yourself. A merchant is by default whitelabel, in other words self-hosted. A hosted merchant? Never saw that before........

Since it's not exactly clear whether you're concerned on the side of accountholder or actual merchant, I'll quit the speculation :) honestly though if you're just going to open an account -- where's the big deal?? go to their website and signup lol.

evelynds, no offense taken... I most likely jumped the gun asking for pointers. Will be great if the banks have all of the answers like you're saying. This is my first venture involving any form of real e-commerce outside of the random paypal transaction here and there so I wasn't quite sure where to even begin. I was looking more for recommendations on actual merchant service providers and some basic pointers for someone new to the business of accepting online cc payments in mass.

Appreciate the guys who sent over the helpful pm's, seems like it's a topic people prefer to discuss in private.

Agreed rage, pretty poor taste on that first one. This one's not a 10 either but definitely a step above.

tvmatt, yep... That's me. Not trying to hide, just joined on Friday and getting my info set-up. Cambridge has been getting all kinds of offers activated in this space since Mid January.

There's a big difference between "we know what we're doing" and "they know what they're doing".

@Spades let me know if you still need processing/merchant acct. If it's legit I can get you a bottom rate around 1.9ish and lower with volume (disclaimer: I know the CEO of the company & will be an independent service provider for them soon)

If you are looking for industrial strength processing, contact me. My clients are doing multiple 7 figures a month without worry of losing their accounts. Regional bank are probably not your solution.....
