In real estate those are called "bandit signs" and the laws about if/when/where they can go vary. The county I live in cracked down on them a few years back and a lot dissapeared. I could tell when I crossed county lines when I suddenly saw them on every street corner again. Well that and the huge "You Are Now Entering County X" signs.

Offline marketing is pretty powerful. I recommend college campuses. Hire some kids to go around and slap your posters/ads up all over the campus. Loans, dating - it all works.
