whats your thoughts on the new microsoft logo?

TechNet Blogs - shows it off...

I think for a multi billion dollar organisation they could have spent more than $25 on a graphic designer from an affiliate forum to do up a logo for them...

It looks cheap and nasty...
 


That is something that some college intern did. For a multi billion dollar company they sure spent no expense on getting a new logo.

I'm glad they explained which part is the symbol and which part is the type. Would have been lost without that assistance.
 
It's just a simplified version of what they've been using forever. Fits their metro theme. Big woop.
 
It is redundant and I would have thought for a company based on innovation they would have come up with something more effective and creative than the good old windows tiles and the free font they give out with every copy of windows.
 
people think more complex is better for logos, but if you look at the logos of the top companies in the world, they almost always share one thing in common; simplicity. Simplicity is important for massive companies that push a lot of different products, as it's always easier to remember something that's more simple than more complex.

The idea behind their logo makes sense. Since "Microsoft" is pretty much synonymous with "Windows", they've taken that windows concept/symbol they've used in the past and simplified it. The 4 squares = a window, with each different pane symbolizing their diversity with colors. Just watch the presentation video for the logo, it's a pretty sweet video and they do a good job of taking that simple logo and exploding it into something diverse in terms of displaying what they're about.

It's fantastic. Perfect extrapolation of the old, ties in nicely with the new (Metro). Very well done.


That said, not a single system in my house runs Windows any more, even the kids run linux.

I like this logo. It's too bad Metro can't be as nice as this logo.
