So I walked into the local Microsoft store today and played with the Surface RT. The place was packed, but no one was buying one... After playing with it for 10 minutes I realized why: It crashed TWICE on me.
These RT models, with their little ARM processors, are under-powered crap. Add to this the fact that they have like 5 programs in their app store and you can't install any other kind of software on them, and fuck, they're literally, completely useless... Just a huge desk clock.
Between the 2 keyboards I liked the thicker (type) board better with it's mechanical keys, because between the 2 keyboards, it was the only one to register more than half of my keystrokes.
...Naturally this keyboard costs extra though, whereas the thinner keyboard (touch) comes with most models of the surface.
Oh yeah, then there is this, too:
Businesses can't use Office on Windows RT tablets!? | ZDNet
Apparently you aren't legally allowed to use the surface RT in the businessplace, because of the software licensing restrictions! Have you ever heard of shit like this before?
I really can't believe MS did such a SHITTY job. This makes them look like ameteurs, and holiday sales on MS hardware is going to be in the absolute toilet.
I might give their surface Pro a chance, but that won't come before I move or before Christmas, so fuck... MS has screwed themselves really good.
Whomever there came up with the idea for the surface RT needs to be fired, period. They never should have deviated from the mission of a full computer the size of a tablet, which the Pro version still has a chance of achieving.
Aside: My wife got one of the first iPad minis... Won't arrive soon but they apparently sold out in 27 minutes from their online store... Microsoft really blew this launch epicly.
