Microsoft's New Tablet

Uh, it's pretty much the first tablet that's actually a computer. You can actually do things on it other than jack off to angry birds.

Ya, i'm not saying its not a good idea... but this is the best you could do?

It will sell... if you had 40 billion.. do you think you could come out with something more interesting? Serious, think of all the labs non public you could get into... and really create something innovative.

Make money with this (for ms) yes, "innovative" no. I use the word because Bill Gates uses it... when he talks (or at least used to).... if he thinks about innovation all the time.. this is not it.

Windows doesn't have that many apps. The device might be nice, but most apps I use are droid and apple based. They might as well call it a laptop.

Not exactly. I've used one of the motion tablets and it blows. Granted it isn't a MS product, but the thing is crap to use.

They ought to be able to come up with something pretty spectacular given they have three generations of ipad to copy. But when you factor in their prowess with innovation, building mp3 players and phones I think they'll take a bath on this one too. IMO most people want to read, surf internet and play games and movies. Cost will be key, less costly that an ipad. Maybe it will be a big enough failure to finally get Balmer out.

Really cool to see a keyboard. I hate typing on touchscreens.

I hope they learned from the Zune though... I don't really see how they can compete with the iPad...

Zune became Windows Phone which then heavily influenced Windows 8. Sounds like they learned from it.

Brilliant interface, makes everything else look dated imo.

Hmmmm a tablet/laptop Hybrid.

This coming from a guy who has 40 BILLION in net worth, 1000's of workers... this is the best hi tech that can come out of that?

Think about that.... if you had 40 BILLION... and all the time to think up stuff..... lots of people to build all sorts of ideas.. then this...

Fucking exactly.
Windows is retarded and have always scammed after apple since the beginning. This looks gay to me and I agree, HUGE company and this is the BEST they can do ?

It looks gay as AIDS, but if it runs full Windows apps I might give it a shot. I'm not holding my breath though, only Microsoft can fuck up their products like they typically do.

That block UI gotta fucking go.

Cool, looks a tad bit more gay than an iPad.

If you want a fucking desktop, BUY A FUCKING DESKTOP. You can't replace a fucking desktop with a piece of shit tablet, get the fuck over it.

Also, runs on Windows 8. I'd rather use an OS that nickycakes coded rather than Windows 8. Has anyone actually used Windows 8? It's like an autistic hipster version of an OS that makes no sense but has pretty UI and colors.

Totally bro

Totally bro

Was waiting for that!

Fancy textures, transparency, all that bullshit will go out of fashion in the near future I guarantee it. Just like minimalistic hardware design (which Apple gets right), simplicity in software is going to become the winner.

Personally I'm not a fan of their colour choices, but I'm sure its customisable. Admittedly they could have made it look a whole lot classier by keeping things black. A black background with colourful highlights (which is what Windows Phone uses) looks excellent, especially on an AMOLED screen that has 100% true blacks. They probably decided against it because no desktop screens can show true black, ends up looking grey.

I find it interesting that Apple made their tablets more like their phones, while Microsoft made their tablets more like their desktops. At least you have an option of having a proper OS here, if they made a tablet with a big version of Windows Phone we'd be fucked for choice.

I don't own a tablet, because up to this point I haven't been able to justify buying a bigger version of my phone. If I need a screen that is any bigger than my phone, I probably also need the full power of a mouse/keyboard. I understand why this might be different for others, but that is just the way it is for me. I can read books on my phone, play games on my phone, but I can't write code on my phone (and I also can't imagine myself writing code on a tablet).

I don't know if I'll actually buy this, but this will definitely be the first tablet I will seriously consider, because I could definitely make serious use out of a tablet that can also easily be used as a laptop.

And if it is running a Windows that is equivalent to the Windows 8 that'll run on laptops (it can run Windows programs) that will alone make it worth it for me.
