Try Google search - "link:wickedfire.com" and you will get the number of backlinks to wickedfire.com recognized by Google - 106.

Try - "link:forums.digitalpoint.com" - 313.

...

Try - "link:webhostinggeeks.com" - 4,120.

This dude is the God. You know how many backlinks whitehouse.gov gets? Just 7,710.



I can't help but start wondering how many bucks webhostinggeeks.com has spent in acquiring all the backlinks. Must be no less than 1 million dollars..
 


The scary thing is the actual backlinks across the entire web that you can see in the Google webmaster central for your own website is about 10000 times that of what Google publicly displays. For example, my blog kavoir.com has 82 backlinks when you search "link:kavoir.com" yet it shows about 750,000 backlinks in my Google webmaster central.

Multiply 4,120 by 10000 and you get 41,200,000 actual backlinks.

Most of them are in wordpress theme footers. I think they're hosting wordpress for people and including the link in the footer of their installs.

I made a phpbb theme years ago and put a link to my site in the footer. The site really had nothing on it. I had tons of back links and PR6.
 
I never understood why the difference between the backlinks displayed in Google using "link:url" is so different from the number in Google Webmaster Tools or Yahoo Site Explorer.
