I have looked for a good MMA domain for the last 2 weeks, and I couldn't find SHIT! So, about 2 days ago I came upon an expired domain and scooped it up. I don't know much about domains, so i'd like your guys input on my choice.

I got MMAblast.com. From what I know, the domain is about 4 years old, and used to be a forum. I did some digging and found some dude from DP selling the "then" MMA forum.

nice name

i welcome the onslaught of nubz who neg rep me 'cos they like wwf in a octagon

Not the greatest domain name IMO but I don't know your [keyword] goals. It's easy to remember and brandable, but you're going to need a large budget to compete in the saturated MMA space.

edit: you fail at boobs

Sorry guys... Here ya go :)... Back to the domain though. This is going to be a huge project for me, and yes I will be putting a good amount of money forth due to the competition. My goal was to have an easy to remember, brandable domain. Any other thoughts.

I think at this point people don't even care anymore. The boxing vs MMA thing used to be a serious debate but now the debate is over and one of the sports has taken the clear lead. MMA is growing like crazy world-wide and has a shitload of momentum. Boxing, not so much.

MMA is actual fighting, boxing is glorified pillow fighting that ends with a decision 9/10 times. So it's only natural people have gravitated towards the real fighting sport that provides actual entertainment and a victor who isn't chosen by a panel of judges.

I wasn't even going to try and argue with him for the simple fact that MMA has outgrown, outsold, completely shit on boxing. But thanks for that :)

Any thoughts on the domain??? lol

Yeah it's crazy how MMA has taken over. I used to be a hardcore boxing fan for at least a decade; now it's just boring to watch in comparison to even a boring MMA bout (I.e., any recent Anderson Silva fights).

Dana and the Fertitta bros have taken over and boxing will only continue to dwindle. It's a great sport, but just doesn't have the diversity to keep most people's attention.

5 on a scale of 1 to 10. You got the 5 for including your keyword (MMA), you kept it short and you kept it .com. It's not bad, but if this is a project you are going to invest a lot of time and money in, you should buy the best domain you can afford... even if it means buying it in the aftermarket through Sedo or BuyDomains or by making an offer via email/phone based on the whois info.

Things to consider when deciding on your name are things like:

- Are people already searching for the exact match term. So a name like MMAFights (which shows as expired btw) or even MMABlog or something have exact match searches which give you not only natural type-in visitors but also more weight in SE's. People also will trust you more if the term is exact match.

- If you go brandable, choose the best "brandable" term you can get. Think of it this way: have you ever visited another site the uses the term "Blast"? When a visitor sees "mmablast" do they immediately know what kind of content they will find on your site? It really depends on the type of content and the type of visitor you're trying to grab. Blast isn't bad, but it's not in the top 10 brandables.

I hope this helps.

Not a bad domain, easy to spell once people remember it. A good logo that enforces the "blast" image could help too.

MMA isn't a trademark, is it?

Remember when the WWF (world wildlife foundation) sued Vince McMahon and he had to change the league name from WWF to WWE? Doh!
