I work with a client who has a software product that he gives out for free. He is interested in potentially integrating some things along with the installation such as optional installs of toolbars or whatever to make more money from this. I was wondering if anyone has any tips on this sort of thing and know what programs work well for it. I've found the Yahoo toolbar which can be run through upload.com but I'm not sure if there's a better more direct way to run that yet. He wants to stay with more legitimate stuff like the Yahoo toolbar and not more shady stuff.

Anyone who knows of possible things that can be done or has experience with this sort of things please let me know thanks!

If you read through the post and comments, that should give you a good idea. Here's a summary of what I remember:
1. Pay per install programs. Join some ad networks like azoogle, neverblue, etc and you can find less shady offers.
2. install google custom search bar, and get residual income
3. if google pack program is still up, it is a pretty decent money maker.
3. alter the *.exe to open a URL after install.

How many downloads does he get weekly?

About 1500 I think maybe more.

The real problem is the dude is totally not into running anything remotely shady. Won't even test running ads on adware. It's taken me forever to convince him that trying out even the Yahoo toolbar is ok. So anything has to be pretty super up and up.
