For a couple living on the southern coast of Spain.
€1190 for rent << going to renegotiate this down to €900 or move, there are far cheaper apartments here now on the Costa with the depressed Spanish economy. There are nice places, maybe without the same kind of view that I have, for €600-€700.
€420 for car rental
€80 for gas in said car
€100 ish for phone/internet
€150 for electricity
€50 for water
€50 for heating gas
€40 for pay as you go mobiles
€200 for European wide medical coverage
€600 for groceries
€50 for insurance
€200-€300 for misc drinking/eating out, taxis, highway tolls, etc. etc.
Total is about €3000 a month.

Oh, don't worry, it still is. But not really, if you're eating out for three meals a day. That's like $6-7 a meal which isn't too bad.

I've seen pictures of your view in another thread. You seriously get that for €1190 / m? I'm moving.
Yeah man. 2nd floor apartment, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, about 1000 sq ft. Like I said, it should really be going for about €900 a month right now. The people above us just took the penthouse which is nearly twice as big with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and more than twice as much patio for €1200 a month.
My buddy took a rather large 2 floor penthouse apartment with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and 3 large patios overlooking the marina in Sotogrande for €1200 as well.
You can get some really nice apartments in the €600-€700 range too. Or you can go the other way and get a whole villa around here for €1500 ish and up.
If you could PM me some links to real estate / rentals for the area of Spain you live in, that would be really cool. I've looked around before, but I thought it was WAY more expensive than that. I'm sure there is a pretty big difference though between how much people say they want online and what you can actually get by negotiating etc locally.

Nah... you can't really surmise someone on an initial post, the OP explained his reasoning behind his desire not to spend, and it made sense. Some people just don't need things or want them, or get bored fast.
Not everyone needs trophies. I personally think as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. However, I have some relatives who have a bunch of money who never leave the damn house, and I often tell them they need to get out and take a vacation, travel, see the world. What good is an inflated bank account if you never leave your couch?
We don't need fancy cars or mansions to be happy, but we should treat ourselves to things every now and then as a reminder of the hard work we do.
My personal hobby is pinball machines, I collect them, I refinish them, love the mechanics to them. They're pricey, 4-6K for a modern one... I have a game room with a bunch of them, standup video arcade cabinet with 2000 games, pool table, etc. This as a hobby allows me to unwind and digest the crap that goes down every day with AM.
So do you need to buy things to unwind? No.. but you should have an outside hobby or interest and not be afraid to buy the occasional toy here and there.
Monthly expenses are just under 2k and by no means do I live a lavish lifestyle.
I drive a 97 ford pickup, Live in an apt ($900/month split in 2) and have a gym membership ($40/month). I pay damn near $100/month for car insurance and that's just liability. cell phone $100/month. food bill 300-400/month. misc loans and student loans $350/month.
And I live in Minnesota, which fails in comparison to the cost of living in
NY or CA.
