My company is developing a SEO tool possibly to gauge accurate SERP rankings, etc... Is this really still needed or what other pain points/tools are needed most and we will build it :)

Add project management features into the tool.

Such as add notes to a particular serp or keyword for link building tasks or content. Then make a way to aggregate these notes.

If your site had the functionality of MSM and project mgmt incorporated, I would use it.

(Currently using a medium pkg on msm)

There's a good few systems out there OP.

MSM as mentioned and then SEO Powersuite Rank Tracker to check from your own PC.

We are just looking to create useful SEO tools that are currently needed and are not out there or not up to par. With your input we are willing to create these on our time and money and will share them with you to test. You can beta test our tools and let us know.

I think everyones right, that has been done, and what needs to be done now is a hybrid project management/ rank tracking tool.

Especially if you made the project management as a tool between employees or the siteowner and then outsourcers.

The Enterprise level tools that do Project Management are outrageous monthly.

Also it is good if it does multi sites and small sites well. But for growth and market share you should try to make it something larger companies would use.

I never could figure out why MSM is called MSM when most siteowners don't have multiple sites.

I'm working on something like this. PM me if you want to discuss ideas.

I use ranktracker and it's not that accurate to be honest. Would like a newer tracker one that didn't ask for monthly payments

I use SEO Powersuite rank tracker and, as far as I'm concerned, it's accurate unless you forget to update to the latest version.

Also, there is a way to click on a result and view it in an external browser. I used to do it in the beginning to double-check if the data was correct. The results always matched, so I stopped checking.

secretagentdad we can build a tool similar to opensiteexplorer. (i assume that is the tool you are referring to). We will let you know when we have the beta version available as your feedback would be used in helping us make it a great product.

I also throw in a word for Whoosh Traffic! (for rank checking, they also have a couple of other tools included for free that are really useful) I moved over to them from Microsite Masters as their interface is a lot cleaner and their support is much more responsive.

@clear

My own company Whoosh Traffic! supports accurate local SERPs (only in the USA right now) using zipcode locales. If we get enough interest in locale support for foreign countries we'll add it; we just haven't seen any demand for it. Our plans start at $15.00 and you get a lot of cool features with it.
