Movie theater VP tells customer to go **** yourself in a complaint response

All three theaters in our city (at least the last time I went to anyone of them) are all cash only. It's a well known fact and I'd be surprised to see someone bitching about it. I guess it just depends where you come from. Most people here would rather drive the 30-45 min north or south to watch a show in a better theater.

It looks like a standard complaint, I really don't think she's trying to scam anything. You see the money issue itself probably wouldn't have been enough for her to write a complaint about it, but it was the fact that her experience once the movie started is what really did her in. When someone gets to the point of actually complaining, they will generally put in every last little thing that bugged them about their visit, especially if the write it in the heat of the moment.

From my experience in the restaurant industry hustlers will greatly fabricate or blow out of proportion things to make it as damning as possible.

I've seen hustlers go as far as freeze a fake plastic bug into an ice cube and complain that it came out of our soda fountain. No joke, we kept it frozen at corporates request and had it tested. I've seen people come up with elaborate schemes that involved fake names and multiple addresses and milk areas of the same franchise for months (corporate eventually caught them and filed charges). I've seen whole familys finish their meals then come up and complain that something was wrong with all of them. All you can do sometimes is laugh, because some of these people have balls of steel - or are legitimate psychopaths - take your pick.

I've seen lots of shady shit. One of the best pieces of advice I've ever received from an Area Supervisor was that getting hustled was just part of the business, and if you guess wrong all your doing is hurting a legitimate customer. Most of the time people vent so badly because they don't know what else to do and want to know that they'll be taken care of.

I've personally wrote letters like the above, except probably worse to some large company's to get issues resolved. Most notably AT&T and Comcast. However that was after spending a lot of time on the phone with their worthless customer support (whom understandably can only do so much and have their hands tied).

So before some of you go and throw the lady under the bus as a hustler (which you have no reason to) think about that she is probably a butt hurt customer and was just venting. It's really that simple.

Read the complaint letter again:

My husband and I just went to your theater to see Shutter Island. First off, the year is 2010 and your establishment does not accept cash cards or credit cards. We did not have enough cash on us and neither did your ATM. If you run out of cash by Saturday evening you should have a higher allotment of cash. Since most people expect to use their cash card, the ATM, I'm sure, is utilized frequently. Frankly, get with the time. I know you are charged for transactions on a card machine but frankly your customers would be better served. How many customers do you lose because they don't have cash or check (since 90% of establishments don't accept checks anymore).Thankfully, we had friends who had 1 check on them. We would have had to go to the bank to get cash to see a movie. Should we charge you for time and gas? Secondly, after the first 10 minutes a staff member came in and announced that there were 8 people who should not be in that movie. She proceded to check tickets of paying customers trying to enjoy a movie. She also brought in the ticket clerk to see if she would recognize the 4 remaining people who did not leave after the announcement. This ruined the first 30 minutes of the movie. Frankly, we lost the first part of the plot and new characters. I did not pay 18.00 to have a distracted experience. Are 8 people worth a theater full of refunds? Why not wait until the movie is over and check people leaving? Why not pause the movie? I expect a refund, but only by check card. Oh wait, sorry, we are all out of check cards. Get the point yet? I would rather drive to White Bear Lake, where they obviously know how to run a theater than have this experience again. Sarah

She wants a refund because of? Oh, because they checked the tickets and didn't accept CCs. Wow, big deal. That means I should ask for a refund on my rent because my lights went off once and the land lord, gasp, doesn't accept CCs.

That is a load of shit. Normal people don't act like that. She probably didn't even ask for the refund in person because she knows she is full of shit. She is hustler. You obviously never dealt with as many hustlers as I have. I can spot pieces of shit like her a mile away.

I envy the VP. I would be sooo happy to call these shits out like he did.

Meh, I somewhat agree with her, if they're gona come in and check tickets and such, at least stop the movie, raise the lights and quickly do a check, then resume the movie. Not spend 30 minutes interrupting each person while the movie is in progress.

Read the complaint letter again:

Brah, I've read it several times. There's nothing out of the ordinary in there. I'll hit your highlighted parts.

Obviously the first time they have been to this theater, or they would have known it was cash/check only. I'd pissed too if the ATM was out of money. Still nothing suspicious, assuming the ATM was really out of money.

Should we charge you for time and gas?
Pissed because if you're not going to accept cards, you ATM better be stocked. She's no demanding money for time or gas, she's making a point that if this is how your going to do business you better have fucking money in the ATM. A very valid point.

If indeed they where trying to find the people whom snuck into the movie after the movie actually started, that is a huge distraction. Again nothing out of the ordinary if it happened, which according to the statement put out by the theater it did indeed at least take place although we are not sure it took place during the movie.

I expect a refund, but only by check card. Oh wait, sorry, we are all out of check cards. Get the point yet?
Seriously brah, she's trying to drive the point.

Most people are not that confrontational in person, but when you can vent and hide behind a letter or email that totally changes.

For having dealt with "so many hustlers" you're pretty dense.

Personally, I also can't stand places that don't take plastic. I rarely find them any more. But I never carry cash. So if a place doesn't take plastic, then they're not getting my business.

On a side note. If I lived near there, I'd think about buying up a small parcel of land next to the theater and put up a cheaper ATM. Also put up a big sign saying "get your movie money here".

I found out about this a few weeks ago... This theater is actually in my hometown. LARGE facebook group on boycotting the theater now over this incident. I expect the VP to be fired over this shortly, word on this is spreading rapidly

It'd probably make more sense having a big sign that says "Surcharge ONLY 1$"

:P

I agree with both of them. She doesn't deserve anything. And why the shit do they not accept cards? Am I some sort of city slicker over here? I'll put up with like a corner sandwich shop only accepting cash...MAYBE...but a dang movie theater?

The guy gets points for balls, of course that means nothing in the real world. It also makes you wonder if he got a lot of letters like this and she just happened to be the one he flips on.

She seems like a bitch, but I never carry cash either. I can't think of a single place I go that doesn't accept credit. So when a "cash only" situation pops up it is pretty inconvenient. Of course the business can do what they want. At the same time the suggestion they consider accepting plastic should be welcomed/considered. As most of us here should know, using a credit card does not mean one does not have "money" to spend on shit ( especially if one is attempting to use a debit card, wtf).

I didn't realize people still pay for movies!

THIS!

I'm surprised at people siding with him in this thread. What, just because he's a business owner? Aren't any of you customers? Personally, I'm sick of customer service these days.

And on a personal note yesterday my husband took the kids downtown to an event at the stadium. they were charging 30 dollars to park. So he went a little further a way, paid the 15 dollars to park and then walked with the kids 30 minutes to the stadium. When they go there, they said, sorry we take cash only for all the events going on today. WTF? He didn't have his ATM card so they were all SOL.

I can't believe there are businesses that would still try to function on cash alone. Imagine how much profit they're missing out on. Stupid.
