is it a good idea?

I have a dedicated server through LiquidWeb and have about 20 or so sites set up on that right now, with cPanel set up and Fantastico and so on.

I'm questioning if it's a good idea to keep adding addon domains though, especially since I'm about to start up a project that'll need another 30 or 40 subdomains and databases.

Should I get them to install another cPanel on the server and use that new domain for that?

What's the upside and the downside? Any performance issues I should be worried about?

I'm not a server admin guy at all, if you couldn't tell.

WHM/cPanel is meant to have multiple cPanel accounts installed, that's pretty much the point of the entire control panel.

You shouldn't have to contact them for it, just log into WHM and click "create new account".

I put 50-250 cPanel accounts on a server, depending on the hardware.

definitely having an account for each domain is the way to go...less chance of making a mistake.

if you do not? and get 10+ domains going, each with a few subdomains and you have a LOT of folders in the public_html...just makes life a lot easier.

Ignoring the mistake on working (installations vs accounts), I keep myself on one account, as I've found having everything under one, easy umbrella makes it easy to organize, move files from one site to another, and so maintenance tasks (updating all WordPress installs using a bash script).
