NATIONAL RIFLE ASSC BITCHES..

You won't have to go door to door. Ban the sale of guns. Ban the sale of bullets. Have a system put in place for people to get their license to keep their guns for hunting reasons. Give everyone a 2-3 year deadline to either give up their gun or get licensed to own hunting guns.

Uh, you do realize that "hunting" guns can kill people? One of the reasons the Norway killer was able to get guns was because he applied for a hunting license.

In the first 5-10 years, you will get most of the guns out of the troubled neighborhoods.

Various US cities have certain types of gun bans. Washington D.C. banned hand guns in the 1970s, but they are still a top gun violence city.

12,000 people are murdered every year.

Few of which happen in New Hampshire or Vermont, two states with the laxest gun laws. You're much more likely to get murdered in Washington, New York City, or many of the other cities with stricter gun laws.

Making a gun is a lot more complicated.

Supposedly 1/5 of guns seized in Washington D.C. are homemade to one degree or another.

On another note, the US should also keep mental hospitals open.

I think they are.

I'm sorry for wanting a safer society for the country I live in. You're all right, the current system is perfect the way it is, and we shouldn't do anything to change it. We'll just tag those innocent kids and the 12,000 innocent people murdered every year as the price we have to pay for our freedom and live with it.

I'm sorry for wanting to limit your constitutional rights because I'm uncomfortable with the idea that bad things sometimes happen. You're all right, the current system is perfect the way it is, and we shouldn't do anything to change it. We'll just have to grow up eventually and realize that it's impossible to legislate against the possibility of something negative happening without severely limiting the rights of individuals.

right on!

Not the only article on it, but it does emphasize that mass shootings are not any more common today than they have been in the last decade, and the tops of it was around 1930. The difference is, however, that it has been sensationalized by the media big time lately.

Another thing is population growth. The number of people in the US has nearly tripled since 1930, so that means there are 3 times as many potential psychopaths out there. Crime rates can fall, but at the same time the media can have more individual crimes to report on due to the increasing population.

Changing for the sake of change can potentially make things worse. Murderers already don't care about the law, so why would they care about following your gun ban? You want to weaken the ability of society as a whole to defend themselves, but are illogically assuming that it will be counterbalanced by the criminals willingly giving up or not seeking guns.

You also seem to be insinuating that the current laws cause deaths. Again, if that is the case then places like Vermont and New Hampshire should be major murder capitols.

If you really want to help bring about a safer society, then you're simply looking in the wrong place to bring about the change needed. You're simply barking up the wrong tree... A lazy, liberal tree.

No one said the system is perfect the way it is; it's a set of compromises that no one is fully happy with but all alternatives to are currently unacceptable for too many people. I suggest you learn to deal with it... Far more will die from any other course of action.

If the 300 million guns weren't already here, we'd have the option of realistically talking about things like what you are proposing, although it would still be a bad trade to ban the remaining guns for the reason our forefathers made clear the 2nd amendment. (Hint: It ain't hunting.)

People should just start reporting those damn weird nerds and their revenge fantasies. Put them in a separate high security nerd school or something.
