It's something between 80's retro style, glossy web 2.0 style, first years of web style and it looks unfinished.

The good thing is that users wont react the same way, because they will be blinded by the colors you've chosen.

I'm going to re-color the site using Adobe's color tool, Kuler. Awesome utility if any of you designers haven't seen it.

I've also got a redesign planned, to accomodate the potential for hundreds and hundreds of new parts, front news page, etc; the current design will outgrow a single page very soon with all the parts visible at once.

I will revisit this topic when I push the redesign. Thanks for the feedback.

I think you should make the smiley output area more defined and seperated from the rest of the selection boxes so that it is more clear. Perhaps you should place it at the top right or top left next to some PPC ads.

I also think that floating the aspect boxes is rather lazy and gimmicky. Perhaps you should arrange them sequentially on the page so that the process is defined and easier to follow through to the end. My reasoning being that given that scattered array of possiblities the user will either decide to experiment or be flustered and hit the back button rather quickly.

Surely, as the process is a creative one anyway, it would be better to make it easy to follow so that people stay and experiment, perhaps even click on your ads once their mouse moves towards that save button?

I'm completely redoing the creation screen. As I add parts, it will outgrow one screen if everything is displayed at once.

Yes, I agree that the user would benefit from having a process to step through, like a "Smiley Wizard" maybe, but also give them the option of going back to any choice and changing it. People want a process... wizards are comforting.

Thanks for the input.

Since everyone keeps bumping my thread, can I get some pointers on what kind of affiliates I should put up on the site?

Smileys have a pretty wide appeal, but I figure young girls would probably use them the most, to post on their social sites and forums. So, I guess I'd target shit like ringtones, handbags, makeup, etc.

So, should I make that assumption, or are there better ways to try to figure out my audience?

Or like you guys tell everyone else, just put up a bunch of different stuff and test each campaign to see what converts best. But really, there's literally thousands of different things I could try. How do you sync up your content with your ads/affiliates?

Really, that's the biggest missing part of my strategy. I'm signed up for Adsense and a few different affiliate programs (COPEAC, Linkshare) but they have a lot of different products. Sometimes correlations are obvious (articles about acne = ads for acne cream) but how do you connect content to a product when you don't have an obvious correlation to a product?

Is it still banking for you?
Shouldn't you move on to new projects?

I like the favicon. The header has three graphics and the two left ones have shine on the top and then the right one doesnt. Looks a little unbalanced. Also the header graphics look a little flat. They dont jump out...

As for aff offers I would try ringtones and shit like that. Cheap Young etc. Look at whateverlife.com and see what offers they show.

Looks good dude, but I have to admit that 3rd sidebar (far left) is driving me crazy. It's way too distracting. Could you instead move it to above the content, right below the "Home, Create, Gallery" navi?

The Widgetbux bar is the only thing generating any revenue. I've got Copeac ringtones and diet pills and Adsense in the rotation, but nobody's clicking anything but that shitty flash widget. Go figure.

Anyway, here are my stats for October so far:

Change your offers dude. Ringtones and diet pills on a smiley site may not be the best.
Try Zwinky at Neverblue: NeverblueAds™*Affiliate Network**|**Home <- shameless referral. It should probably convert much better for you than what you're using currently.

Are you seriously making any money from widgetbux?

Yeah, like $5 so far. Which is a lot more than anything else I've tried on the site. sigh.

I would gladly turn over a months profits to get some guidance.

How about placing one of the sidebars on the other side so that the content can be a bit more centered. It's minor but I, personally, am more comfortable with text that's pretty much closer to the center of the page.
