So I've been doing this for almost half a year. I just can't seem to get it. Maybe I'm not creative enough, maybe I just don't have the fundamentals down. I'm coming to the point where I want to hire someone to just kick start this career in Affiliate Marketing. If you can please send me an e-mail @ simonc86@gmail.com. The sooner the better. Thank you very much.

Lesson #1 - It's all about presentation.

You would be much less likely to get flamed on message boards if you would:

1. Stop whining
2. Change the word mentor to consultant

You have been trying so hard for half a year yet this is your first post?

Man goes into the Dr's office and says "Doc, it hurts when I move my arm like this...". Doctor says, "then don't move your arm like that."

SOOOO.... If you've spent 6 months and $X,XXX dollars and not profited, maybe you should try switching it up.

What have you been doing by the way? I've just started to make a profit, and I've spent quite a bit already.

Also, this will get me anally flamed, but it's helping my wife understand how AM works: Black Ink 2 - Sponsored by WebEx and The Black Ink Project - Presented by Jeremy Palmer of Quit Your Day Job

posting on a forum != trying. unless it's your forum.

few things:

1) you are fucking amazing

really, you are. you are exceptionally creative. you have one of the sharpest marketing minds around. you just don't know it yet.

creativity is probably the most abundant 'skill' available to humanity, expertise given at birth and honed to perfection during our early years. problem is most of us have it beaten out of us during primary school, to fill an industrial need for lack of creativity.

it can be relearned.
just takes some practice.

start with the easy part: absorb others' creativity.

check out someone's landing page. cut every image, every paragraph, every word into parts. ask yourself why they used that there, why is that phrase used there, why is this colored that, why that is there instead of here.

why? why is the best question ever asked.

if you don't immediately find answers, keep asking yourself.
if you still don't get an answer, try asking the owner.
when they don't answer, keep asking yourself.

you'd be surprised at how much the inner you knows.
if you discover it doesn't know jack, start reading:

2) affiliate marketing is not a career.

it is a business. your business.

there is (relatively) no politics, asskissery, or any other standard j-o-b nonsense. no health benefits, no 401ks. no fake stability provided by skills that will be outdated in a few years and a piece of paper you pay $100,000 for.

this is business. and not everyone is cut out for business.
everyone can do it, but not everyone wants to.

it takes a hell of a lot of dedication, perseverance, and testicular fortitude to do well with affiliate marketing. you have to constantly adapt, continually learn, and test and tweak and test and tweak the hell out of everything. then test and tweak it some more.

seeing it as a 'career' is the wrong mindset to start with. you're better off seeing it as $500,000 you just invested into a bankrupt company that you are now responsible for.

the company can survive. the company can even thrive.
but you need to be willing to do everything it takes to get it done.

and if you're not willing to teach yourself how to get it done, you're probably not going to get it done at all.

why?
because:

3) anyone you hire is more likely to bleed you dry than to teach you everything, or anything.

there are a few exceptions, but anyone you pay to mentor you in this industry is almost guaranteed to teach you nothing compared to what you'll spend. i won't name names of camps or people i have no direct experience with, but i have family who paid $6,000 for coaching from russell brunson that wasn't worth more than the $50 ebooks he sells.

you're taking a good first step by asking for help.

but you'll find that there are many, many, many people who will gladly show you what you need to know for free. like bbwolfe recommended, the black ink project is one of the best resources out there.

beyond that, the absolute best teacher is experience.

if you're not testing different offers, launching different websites, throwing anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks, you'll only learn theory. and theory doesn't make money. unless you're a theorist.

I'd like to volunteer. I'll personally buy some SHIFT keys for the noobs in this thread.

Here is the thing I have noticed with most new AMs, and I have to notice that I was one of them as well. We are so excited about wanting to post a picture of that $200k check somewhere, that we make stupid decisions, and want to make it all in the first month.
If you are starting out it is a patience game. Try to get a campaign going and try to make it profitable at first. You don't have to be +$100 to be profitable. Even +$.01 over your expenses is profit. Once you get that, try and increase it slowly. I know the feeling that, shit, today I just made $50 profit, let me double my CPC and get higher ranking, and that will surely double my profits as well.
So you have been doing this for half a year, big deal. Many have been doing it for few years, and are still trying to figure out how to really make money with AM.
If you read WF, read the stickys and if you still can't scratch out a profit from that...

Mistake #1: Waiting 6 months to post here. You can't learn if you don't interact. You can't just lurk. Sure, you'll get flamed but fuck it. Flame back. If someone hits you with a tree branch just drop a fucking tree trunk on their head.

Mistake #2: Asking for help before bringing something of value to the table. Show us an interesting article, a great idea posted somewhere, hell, even a boob post. It's just like networking offline. Make friends first, then ask for help. Make a few posts, look at the feedback, figure out who might be helpful and who's not. Figure out who's making money and who's not. (Note: it would be good if both of these qualities existed in the same person...good luck with that one).

I never posted here but I did send a PM to another member who sent me to another site to get help. Over there I had account reviews and all that. He said it was fine this and that my campaigns were Okay. But you know? It are not Okay at all. I don't understand why you like to flame someone for an honest question. Do you do that on the streets? Or does your ego grow behind a monitor? Grow up. I need help along with lots of people out there and if you don't want to give help, don't say anything. If you do, thank you.

GREAT attitude to have. Affiliate summit in boston is coming up soon, get tickets, go there, and ask people in person and I bet you will get the same respond as you did on this forum except with real laughter instead of "lol", or would you prefer to hide behind your monitor? Because a lot of people who would have the skills to "mentor" you (which none of them will, except one, but I will get to that in a minute.) are going to be at that conference, and I can bet 98+% of them didn't have "mentors" they learned from forums, blogs, and making contacts.

Now if you are looking for someone to mentor you I know a guy who goes by the name of Paul Bourque, you may know him as "SUP3RNOVA", he is a self proclaimed "uberaffiliate" pulling down 200k+/month**, who runs uberaffiliate.com. He will be willing to mentor you at his "camp" and teach you "all his secrets" however, a small fee will be charged not a big deal though, something like $5,000/month but that isn't important, what is important is you will have someone to hold your hand and wipe your nose every step of the way!

come on seriously, just learn as much as you can from this forum and blogs an if you ever have any SPECIFIC questions come here and ask. Please not "PLZ T3ACH M3H HOWZZ TO M4k3 t3h intrawebzz monies!" kind of questions. More like "hey I don't have very good ctr on X campaign, I checked this this this and that and nothing seems to work what do you guys think?".

**Before expenses + whatever money he makes from Charity Check Tuesday.
