My business site uses the Vertigo 1.0 theme as a base, and I modified it to do what I want... But In the end, it is basically the text and BG color that are left... So the theme has been pretty much mutilated, and even the sidebar was deleted so I could get the nav to show sub menu's, but then it didnt work right so I just deleted the whole thing and manually made each ling in the sidebar...

Basically, I have a frankentheme
(Ill add that to Urban Dictionary)

Anyways, I suck at SEO, and although I have many SEO plug ins and things like the title tag plugin, etc, I have no idea how to use them, or wtf they do.
On top of that, I think my site is just kinda plain, and I think a new look would make it a bit more "homelier", or more trustworthy, more "Im here to stay" as apposed to looking kinda cold and empty...

So I need some good ideas on a good theme...
Take a look @ the site in my sig, and you will see what I have now... I can obviously xfer all my pages really easily, so there are really no restrictions as to what the theme needs to offer, but Id like something that is a bit easier to figure out SEO on (if it even makes a difference), and something that will just.... Fit better. I can re-do all the graphics myself, and I am not content on my current color scheme at all...

Give me some good input here guys, and don't hold back.

OK, before delving into the design specifics, what keywords do you want to rank for?
And where are you now?

Also:
Search for "eye candy" on here and "design grid" on Google.

Will write a thorough answer on Sunday or Monday, as we have friends over this weekend.

emp - Thanks a lot, I'll check those out, and no rush... Enjoy the holidays bud...

Do you want all the keywords I try to rank for?

It's tough because there are so many things I'd like users to see my site in the results for... Its the automotive security niche... So there are so many variables... But let me know if you want me to write out a list, or just PM you what I'm using for Adwords, I'm sure you know how to list and target KW's way better than I do...

Thanks buddy

If you're going shopping for a new theme, stay away from sites that just aggragate a bunch of WP themes. Rumor has it that some of them inject code to do things you may not like. Imagine that!

I stick to the theme forum at the WP site or find a designer I really like who has a nice selection of free or paid themes they've made. Just recently, I stumbled across this designer Themes | milo who has some really sweet ones. They're simple to mod and aren't loaded with links or bogus code.

Going to tagentize the thread a bit. Do you think if the designer would come clean and say i've interjected some code in here for backlinks but it's free and it's cool and that's the price you pay for free...yada yada ...that people would be ok with using it? From what i understand, the code is fairly benign to the user. Do you think it's just the whole wool over the eyes thing that pisses everyone off?

I'm more inclined to trust getting a theme straight from a designer than I am from some site that lists a crap load of them for no apparent reason other than they're generous and philanthropic and want you to have all these cool themes absolutely free.

The designers are more apt to be like artists and just enjoy doing the work and putting it out there for people to enjoy. They probably get a thrill out of seeing their work in the wild and, no doubt, their little links here and there give their site a boost. Plus, most of them sell some themes, along with giving away some of them.

On the other hand, a site that aggragates themes from anywhere and everywhere seems more likely to have some ulterior motive for giving them away... like maybe injecting some type of "phone home" script that might do anything from telling them niches and keywords to replacing all your affiliate links with their own.

That's my paranoid little opinion, for what it's worth.

Damn... Good points guys...
Kinda ties in to the thread about leaving USB drives around...

Someone could put some pretty good code within a template that could probably do everything you mentioned springer... maybe more.

Wow... I really like that theme MDSandB.

Looking at it though, it looks like it would need a good amount of modding to get it to work/look/perform for a site like mine though... But maybe Ill give it a shot...

:)

Check the code of any theme you borrow. Just search for "http://*" in that directory locally. In files of course. Strange shit in there. Call homes... Counters.... Make sure no weird files in the directories hidden.

O ya - those milo themes rock! Thanks Springer
