Netflix's Next Hurdle...

There are a few interesting things in your post. Prior to the article on Xbox, I hadn't even thought of streaming content to the console market. I didn't realize it was a big thing. I'm out of the loop. lol

Even your granny can use it.

I signed up for NetFlix streaming service and I after I logged in to see the selections I was like "the fuck is this shit?". Their selection sucks goat ass, I immediately canceled.

They actually have a fair amount of decent movies and tv shows. I think about half of my rated movies and tv shows have been on Instant.

It's not Netflix's fault. It's the Studios that allow them to stream movies and TV shows. I've had about half of my instant queue suddenly say that it will stop being on Instant after a certain date just because the studio wants to pull it and be DVD only.

TNT is a great example of fucking over their audience by pulling Leverage. It use to be on Instant the day after it aired, but when season 3 started, it pulled all Instant access from even seasons 1-2 because they wanted to force people to watch live or buy the DVDs.

If the Studios pulled their heads out of their asses and made all their content available on Netflix streaming, I guarantee you that piracy would at least decrease by half because all people really pirate for is because of convenience. It's not convenient for people to have to wait 1-2 weeks to get to a movie in their DVD queue if they have friends over and want to watch a movie after they've hung out and eaten dinner, they'll probably torrent it and let it download in the meantime and come back and watch it. If not that, they'll go to one of the many streaming sites that have those pirated videos.

Anyway, I digress. It's not Netflix's fault, it's the Studios.

I prefer to get my blu ray copy in the mail. I am impressed by the HD streaming though.

Whats this 'mail' you are talking about?

Im just blowed a shit ton of documentaries have been taken away recently, I probably watch 3-4 documentaries a week and im running out now!

The value is there, but there's still work to be done on the amount of content.

that's for us up in Canada, in the states they get much more bang for their buck. But I'm not really impressed with Quality... see better vids on youtube.com

Netflix essentially close to doubled their price today if you have DVDs and streaming - I expect this to be a very very bad move

Netflix unveils shakeup in plan pricing | The Digital Home - CNET News

Interesting find. I'm not sure it's a bad move on Netflix's part. Given the alternatives available to consumers, the company may be able to push this without suffering a large attrition of subscribers.

I'll bet most subscribers can relate to the first comment on Netflix's blog post:

Are you F#**!!@! kidding me?
... but that's the case with every boost in price point. After reviewing the other options (Apple, Amazon, etc.), folks may find that Netflix is still their best bet, dollar for dollar.

We'll definitely know how the market feels about it in a year or two.
