There are probably a lot of different reasons for not moving to New Orleans (from anywhere) but definitely don't make the move from Minneapolis unless the following are true:
1. You do not rent a U-Haul trailer and drive it yourself
2. You hire someone to pack your stuff for you and you don't DIY
3. ....

Umm basically those were the difficult parts. The packing and the drive.

Oh yeah and it's hot as hell down here. Yesterday at like 9 in the morning it was hotter and WAY more humid than ANY afternoon I can remember in the last two years in Minneapolis. No kidding.

But I grew up here so I guess I'll get used to it again (to some extent).

Well.. aside for the glorious hurricanes, mosquitos, skanky women, cursed grandmothers, foul stench from a flood that was a few years ago, and the fact that the levees are still not completely fixed, why wouldn't you want to move to beautiful New Orleans???

Have you used them before? Their services are attractive, but I have never heard of them.

I've never heard of them before either. I actually read a lot of great reviews on epinions. I got a quote of $700 for my move (1 bedroom apt) and they sent me a dvd about their services. Sure beats the $2800 quote I got from the moving company I called or the $1400 quote from Uhaul.

To answer the question as to "why" well it's for a few reasons. I'm gonna finish my CS degree but also we have a whole bunch of family here. That helps because we have two small kids. In MPLS life was good but we never got to go out, etc. and now we can.

Oh yeah and we get to live in a pretty nice house for free (one of my parent's properties). That'll help while I go to school.

But hey I totally agree with you guys: NOLA isn't exactly the nicest place to live. In my case, moving here opens up some nice opportunities while I finish school at Tulane. But for most people I would NEVER advise them to move here.

We'll probably go right on back to Minneapolis when we're done here. We actually liked it a lot with the exception of the half-a-year-long winter.
