New Tracking System

Yah. From someone new to the scene I was surprised this group didn't have THE system that everyone else was trying to emulate.

Lot of talent in this forum.

You know everyone, it dawned on me that this tracking system conundrum we're in is quite an anomaly. I mean seriously, we, as a group are some of the most bleeding-edge internet geeks in existence and with the recent disparaging news/reviews regarding P202 1.5 it seems crazy that there aren't a shitload of choices out there for self hosted tracking systems especially given the relative high level of LAMP expertise.

Everybody wants open source so they can self host and make sure there is no funny stuff going on, making the product ostensibly free. Quality tracking is a competitive advantage, who wants to nullify an advantage for free?

It would make sense for one of the bigger networks to take up the mantle of managing a fork of 202 (or build a new one from scratch) like Clickbooth did/has done.

define geo parting if you could.

You want to redirect based on location?

no, i want conversion rates by location. Take IP data and group it by states / providences / countries.

For example, I run a campaign targeting the US, show me how Alabama did.

In that same theme it occurred to me that a few of the coders here have already created and using a better tracking system?

"better" is relative, some that have created their own do it fulfill a specific requirement that 202 may not have met but may not be used by a large percentage of the community. For example the need for pixel support vs. subid support, day parting, day zero tracking, etc... Just look at the start of this thread when the OP was asking for what people wanted, there was all kinds of stuff thrown out that solve specific problems, those problems are the reason why some people have already wrote their own tracking system, and now that they paid the opportunity cost of time and effort of building it don't see enough incentive yet to give it away to their competition.

Understood and hats off to @automatica for pulling this together.

Def put a donate button on there.

the fact that every single person here is competing with eachother might have something to do with that. very few people that were making decent money before prosper was released are happy that it was. it was stupid for them to release a free version, and then a self hosted free version, and then open source self hosted free version. not only for themselves as a business (they would have made such bank if they had charged for it) but competition wise.

if someone writes something better themselves, it's an advantage over their competition, and being the most bleeding-edge internet geeks in existence, we're too smart to do something retarded like share it with everyone for free. you see open source automated bid management software? nope. hard to develop it yourself? nope.

I would have to agree on the stupidity of the prosper team releasing the free version. Don't get me wrong I am glad they did, but I just think it is pretty dumb, in my opinion of course.

The fact of the matter is if p202 wasn't free, we wouldn't be talking about it because it would have died off long ago. The values in it are the ability to modify it and the knowledge your data is in your hands. There's a large group of people that wouldn't use a hosted version, even if it was vastly superior.

You totally missed Cake's point.

Why release something that gives you an advantage over competition? Regardless if it is free or not.

Your tracking system is just going to create more competition on facebook for you.

True dat'

Which begs the question, why are you releasing this? Most here would probably think the competitive advantage from keeping this to yourself would net you more cash than the tips some users will throw your way. If you're doing it for the ego boost that's cool, to each his own, or are you hoping to take it the 202 route and try and provide enough value adds that you get funded?

Having a well established tracking system and the various potential sources of revenue that entails is a better long term strategy than the unreliable world of facebook advertising.

You guys are all missing the point - they did that so they could sell P202. They never had a long term strategy other than to cash out at the top which they did. That's the whole reason the team moved to Silicon Valley (to attract investors) and they even said as much when they did it.

Obviously it comes down to what the developer wants. From his standpoint who cares if there's more competition amongst affiliates if he doesn't care about being an affiliate himself.

If that's the case and the devs really don't give a crap about actually using the software themselves I can't see why'd they care about more competition.

But fact remains, if prosper team and now automatica did this just to boost ego while trying to stay competitive affiliates themselves it's pretty stupid to give it away for free... I mean that's just common sense.

I thought (and maybe this was just AM high school girl gossip bullshit) that bloosky bought 202 for the network and the assload of data they would have access too and didn't really give a shit about P202 as a product in and of itself.

fucking thank you

if you release this for free I'll release mine just to piss you off so that it doesnt get as much traction (maybe)

If facebook is so unreliable than I have a hard time seeing how you will get revenue out of a facebook tracking system.

Why would anyone else pay money for plug ins or however you plan on profiting from it if facebook is unreliable?

Honestly, I don't think you even know how to profit from it.
