Newbie Media Buy Question

I'm trying to get into media buying, so I contacted a small forum that gets 200k page views and about 50k unique visitors a month.
Now they quoted me for $200 for 200k page views, which at $1 per thousand doesn't seem too bad to me.

I'm thinking of promoting a highly targeted email submit which applies to the US only. About 50% of the traffic to the site is from the US.

Now my questions are:

Should I bother with such a small media buy
Is the price they quoted me a rip off
And is an email submit a smart thing to promote or if I should try to find a different type of offer.

Whether your ads above or below the fold is a big pricing factor.

You can find a range of sites starting at $10/mo for crap sites at buysellads

Something doesn't add up here. A healthy forum with 50k monthly unique visitors should produce something like 100-200k page views per day, not 200k per month.

4 page views per visitor looks more like a site that gets most of its traffic from serps, not from repeat visitors... which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your offer.

If it's something "easy" like a free e-mail submit, then it's great. But if you are promoting an offer that requires a substantial up-front payment, then you might be better off hammering the same people over an over as many won't convert the first time they see the offer.

In any case, make sure you aren't getting fucked by the forum owner regarding the stats.
