If a company doesn't have an affiliate program set up, but says they will pay commission, should you use them? How will you track this?

Probably a troll question, but I'll answer anyway.

I wouldn't use them unless you know them personally and trust them. Why not ask the company how they track your sales?

Thank you. It wasn't a troll question, I couldn't find anything online about it. I feel like the bigger companies that have affiliate programs do not offer some of the special packages that these other companies do. But, I guess if I want to make money, I need to stick with the bigger ones according to what you are saying.

Thank you for your reply.

Depends on the company. If they don't have an affiliate program, I assume you have to call them and set up some sort of deal, and agree to a contract. Somewhere in there you need to find out how they track. It might be a sophisticated system, or it could be where they ask the customer "who referred you to us?" and your commission depends on the customer remembering your name.

Dont work with them and find other companies in their niche and level that has affiliate programs setup. Its very hard to get stable and solid commissions specially when the company is setup to ask the customer "who referred you"?
