Newbie SEO Help thread

I have read the stickys the majority talks about keywords, back links, lsi content, social networking which i understand I'm confused about the process to which content should be published and best methods of linking back to my "money site"

If anyone knows of a good thread or resource that goes in depth about this please point me to it.

Dont worry, send ly2 a message, he will help you. He's the one who taught me everything.

Question: Do you believe the hype about social factors like tweets/facebook likes/google + and their direct effect on rankings? Ive tested a little but so far I havnt seen even 10% of the movement I get from a shit load of links, was it all just a google PR stunt or am i missing something?

Cheers.

Seriously, everyone needs to learn how to do a good search query like:
link+strategy inurl:/traffic-content OR inurl:/newbie-questions OR inurl:/shooting-the-shit -intitle:"Newbie Questions" site:wickedfire.com

Hello, gurus, quick question.
I rank #2 for the keyword.com and it is optimized for that particular keyword only, now being a n00b i discovered that synonym keyword brings as much traffic as the original one. I am too afraid to just go and add that keyword to the content and onsite seo stuff that I already have - like mentioning it in brackets or something. Is there any penalty or draw back for the slight change of content after you already ranked that page?

I use their rank tracker but never kept paying for the other tools... thier link assistant didn't really work for me all it did was give me a list of sites and send out requests from webmasters for links, I never got a response from any... does asking for link exchanges ever work? If so does anybody want to exchange links... WTF

Currently My site has 911 BLD and #1 has 26,718 how the fuck do I catch up to that?

I am using a few of the guys on here trying to see who's got the goods because I know its not just quantity of links but also quality. on that note some peeps have 1 pr 5 link for $100 or some shit like do the big boys buy those or are they easy money to make off us that don't know any better?

cheers

You don't need to catch up to that. Get Quality links, and see what your competitor lacks in. Stroll over to SerpIQ and check that out. You will often find you can beat many ranking sites out by using social factors. After you do some analysis go find Enderz in the SBT section and get some quality links for great prices.

no updating your site often is very good and will help you with ranking in serps. Depending on the kw you might want to make a different dedicated page on the site tailored to that kw.

So make a different page for the synonym kw. Take your main page content and spin it, put up the new page with synonym kw and spun content. Put a hyperlink on your main page with the synonym kw in the text linking to the new page. Get a few good backlinks to the new page and ur done. If you need any other help feel free to pm me.

Anyone who does not take advantage of asking these questions is crazy they are the Godfathers of Seo

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with doing (in red text at the top) "Also known as: Synonym" and link to the other page. I would definitely make sure it's different content though.

I have a term with a serpIQ of 33 and a .com that matches the keyword with ony the added word "you" in the domain name.

I have 150 fiverr SBB links from mid december, Rivers SBB from December 26th and BLG pointing to both internal pages as well as some ezine/squidoo stuff i'd set up.

From some reason my home page has totally disappeared from google search results for a week now. Sub pages are ranking but far lower than my homepage was. Any idea why?

robot.txt looks fine.

Today i disabled the "no-index" for category pages from the all in one SEO plugin just in case. I also in google webmaster tools today changed the settings so that the preferred domain is the www version of the domain. I also disabled canonical URLs in that same wordpress plugin in case that had something to do with it.

Anything i'm missing?

Any ideas? Could it just be part of the dance?

Thanks for any help, i know it must be tiring answering noobs questions.

I keep hearing that profile links, and blog comments, are not as effective backlinks anymore. Can you confirm this?

There have been a few webmasters that have been penalized by google for using this strategy. Maybe these people went overboard with the blog comments and profile like perhaps? Too much too soon?

Could just be a dance.. but could be your internal linking structure. Google will try to determine what page ranks for what term. Dedicate a page per term you want to rank and make sure the homepage has kw anchored links to other pages. If you have many anchored links on your homepage pointing to other pages G might have a subpage replace or outrank your homepage - I've had this happen before due to my internal linking.

If you want to make sure the homepage ranks, make sure you have links (nav bar, side bar, footer, and even in text) on all sub pages, that link to the homepage with kw anchored text.

I have a question, since google values content, would it be a good idea to have 10 random article summaries appear at the bottom of each page? This way you get about 50 words per 10 summaries or 500 somewhat unique words per page?

So if a single article has 200 words and you have the 500 random words would google see this as 700 unique content? Assuming you have enough articles to make pages slightly different.

You could easily achieve what you suggest using RSS feeds. Insert these above and/or below your content. I haven't tried this myself before, however, this would give you "random article summaries" changing on a daily basis, if you like.

Hope this helps!

Re: What tool do you use to see competitors link profile?

What tool do you use to see competitors link profile? I have MS but cant see their links all broken down like the demo shows... and is article samurai worth it? doesn't seem like it for the monthly fee I can get others to do it all right??

Have you ever tried Jon Leger's WebCompAnalyst?

Analyses the top 10 or top 20 sites for your keyword. Shows PR with links to Home Page and Internal Page (if that is the page ranked).

Hi,

Can I share a little secret with you? You're half-way to catching up on your competitor whenever you state "its not just quantity of links but also quality".

For therein lies the secret! For example, do the sum total of your competitor's links point to the ranking page or the Home Page only? Or is the total of incoming links spread across the entire site? Do the incoming links to your competitor's ranking page contain your actual keyword/s?

Once you take all of these factors into consideration, you may well find it's easier to compete with your competitor than you think. So many of your competitor's incoming links may literally have little value if they don't contain the exact keyphrase/keyword.

This knowledge enables me to enter what at first appears to be extremely competitive markets, yet rank up there with the best.

So you need some kind of software to do this for you. Currently I use WebCompAnalyst.
