Nice blog design, uncoded - $75

Okay, question, why would someone pay $75 for your boring design when they can get one from themes.wordpress.net for free? In other words, what does yours have that others don't? What makes it worth $75 and not free?

Let's see...

Maybe you'd like to have an original design and not the same one hundreds of others are using?

Or maybe you'd like to resell it since pax's design apparently comes with full rights.

Or perhaps it's the perfect look for a site you have that you haven't found for free elsewhere?

75 bucks for a design is fairly cheap, but yes, this design doesn't really stand out in any real way. Also, the fact that it isn't sliced up and all you're getting is a PSD that you'd still have to code is a drawback.

I still don't see why you crapped on his thread though Mike. People sell designs all the time. Yes, you can find designs for free everywhere, but if you actually want a decent site that isn't just PPC arbitrage, you shouldn't be using a free design that potentially thousands of others are using.

Okay douchebag, I asked you a series of questions designed to answer questions that could come up from serious buyers. Instead of a well thought out answer, you act like an ass.

Squirrelinabox did a much better job answering them for you.

Good luck with your sale.

You insulted my design by calling it boring and that was somehow going to help me sell it to serious buyers?

Nice one.

I love arguing so here you both go...

SEO Mike you say that you asked Pax "questions designed to answer questions that could come up from serious buyers". Um... no you didn't. You don't ask a designer "hey, why should I buy your design over a free design". If you're actually looking for a design, you already know the advantages/disadvantages between free and bought designs with full rights. Whether or not the design is worth the price is obviously up to the buyer and the seller. You don't go to a painter and say "hey, why is your painting worth $1000 when I can get a free photo from flikr?" It's insulting and quite rediculous. If you think it should be worth less and you are interested, then you make an offer.

Pax, if you are seriously trying to sell your design, you need to be at least a tad more professional with responses. Sure, this isn't an official marketplace or anything, but your attitude can greatly influence a potential buyer's decision. I'd consider trying to slice the design and have it coded in HTML/CSS so that potential buyers don't have to worry about that step. $75 for that design with it already coded would definitely be more attractive.

All reasons aside, I didn't ask you to comment SEO_mike. It's a forsale thread not a general topic.

As for $75 for a coded design, get fucked ;) I'll do some local work and do a coded design for $1000. I thought it was worth the 10 seconds to post this thread to sell it.

The problem with the internet is too many 15 year old undercutting me ---- and you non designers love it.

When I was designing I charged $200 for a one page .PSD, and I had a LOT of customers. I don't know where everyone gets the idea that design work should be cheap. If you can't do it yourself, prepare to pay. $75 for a coded design? Go hire someone from India.

Hell, I totally agree that many designs can be worth $200+. I was just saying that for the design posted, $75 would be a tough sell since it wasn't very unique and really had nothing standing out. As such, it'd really need to be coded to get that extra bit of incentive that may help it sell.

As for the 15 year olds and people from India undercutting everything, well, just like all outsourcing issues, the real issue is that YOUR work needs to be above the lower tier that outsourced work and underage work tends to hang around at. If your design isn't any better than a $50 design that's being sold by a 15 year old, why the hell would anyone by your design? Similarly, why get mad at the 15 year old when he can do what you did but provide it at a lower cost?

I really like the design but won't purchase it and 75$ for just the design is actually cheap considering what one can charge for a coded one.
