I like skipping from niche to niche, trying new things out and seeing what works and what doesn't. I must have tried/tested 30 niches in the last 2 years. Of those niches, I've probably had 5 that worked out for me profitably and another 5 that paid for themselves.

Some niche failures of mine:
Ringtones - I fucking suck at this, don't care about 99% of today's music
Identity theft - actually more along the line of break-even, the sites I have are just sitting there now, haven't made a sale in months.
Car warranties - I thought this was going to work, made a few sales, lost interest. Same as ID theft.
Sex toys - No idea why I got into this, lost interest
Local home builders - I really wanted to make this work, didn't have the confidence to invest what I should have
College sports - I made back my initial investment and then some, but I've never really been interested in the subject. Just kind of let the sites die and I don't really want to get back into them.

Some niches I always wanted to try:

American girl dolls - according to the wife, these are hugely popular with girls. Popular = money. Can't be too much competition in dolls, right? Problem is, I don't fucking care about dolls.
Toys - I have three boys and I like toys in general, but there's so much competition and I really think I'd get tired of one particular toy....eh, dunno - I picked up a domain that would work for all kinds of toys, but I never DID anything with it. Let me know if you want it, not even sure if it's still registered.
Foam swords - subset of the toys, my boys love beating the shit out of each other with these things, at least until someone cries. They're fun, cheap and last a month or so - then you want a new one. Not a huge amount of variety, so they'd be easy to write about, maybe throw up a smallish site and test it
Computer equipment - I like building expensive computers. Really, really like it. In fact, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd start a boutique computer building business. The problem is that I don't like customer service. I'd sell someone a computer, they'd have a problem (faulty part) and I'd tell them to RMA it to Newegg and not to bother me. Do I like the niche enough to write about it regularly? No.

So what niches have you tried and failed at? And what niches have you always wanted to try, but that you know you never will?

Roulette supplies and equipment didn't go so well. But I got it some nice temp PR and sold gambling links to DP transients.

Omaha is da bomb! (not really, but I have to defend my hometown)

If you're ever in Omaha though, feel free to hit me up. Grab a coffee or something equally boring. :D

Correction - West Omaha is the bomb. And I'm an Orange County (La Palma, CA!) native.

North Omaha is a gunfight. South Omaha is a knife fight. Completely different weapons.

Well this days it's not just nichie specific we even need to promote and chop the competiters
