I'm surprised so many people voted Eastern Europe. What's the allure there?

I can understand up and moving to say Spain, Malta, Thailand, Costa Rica, Colombia, Uruguay, etc. There's actually some decent benefits to each of those places. But Eastern Europe? Your living expenses will drop about 20 - 30%, but other than that, every other aspect of your life will get worse. Weather isn't great, languages are very tough, politeness and common courtesy is out the window, homelessness and poverty increase greatly, there's rampant scams against foreigners, cops aren't much help, etc.

I just have a hard time seeing someone sitting somewhere like California, and saying to themselves, "that's it, I've had enough of this shit. I'm moving to Poland!".

Seriously guys, what make you want to live in Eastern Europe? I'm from Poland and besides this:

I don't see many positives in living here. Considering that this is gay webmaster forum there are none.

Take a look at this chart:

Naturalisation_rate_-_number_of_persons_having_acquired_the_citizenship_of_an_EU_Member_State%2C_2010_%281%29_%28per_100_non-nationals%29.png

Poland has the highest level of naturalisation in Europe according to Eurostat (well, they didnt count Romania. They could definietly compete with us). Main reason it looks like that is unemployment; people moving to get better jobs but it should tell you something anyways.

If you have any questions, I will gladly answer them ;).

Merry Xmas!!!

Might make some moves and try internet marketing from abroad.

I'm an American citizen.

I don't make a ton from IM yet so I narrowed it down to 3 low cost areas. Curious what you guys think though.

1. SE Asia
Very cheap, lots of english speakers and westerners
Far as hell. Annoying visa situations for most countries

2. Mexico, Central America or Ecuador/Colombia
Cheaper to fly to from the US.. easier visa situation too especially in countries like Mexico
A little less safe? more guns, violent crime, etc when compared with SE Asia

3. Eastern Europe
cheap, fast internet
I'd "fit in" better cause I look russian or eastern european
Not sure of Visa situation
Countries that use Euros would kill me in exchange rates, unless I start earning income in Euros.

I know I could post this on some dumb boring travel forum but I like you guys more and I figured maybe this thread will help inspire other people too.

I have travelled around all three of those areas extensively. No place is "better" it just depends on what you want.

I love SE Asia, personally I would choose it first. It's just so awesome. People are friendly, there's lots of opportunity. Most countries there are up and coming.

Latin America is also great. People there are more macho and aggressive, it feels more "backwards" sometime to me, but if you are an American then you are probably used to that already.

Eastern Europe is interesting, I had a lot of fun there. But shitty weather and a LOT of corruption. And I encountered a lot of "evil" people there, it's really hardcore. Personally I wouldn't live in most of those countries long-term, or do business there. But it's great for a vacation.

The question is too broad to answer though really. Each country within each of these regions is totally different. I'm just using this as an opportunity to brag about my travels I think.
