The White Castle hamburger chain fears that a health insurance reform law adopted earlier this year will put its profits on a downward slide.
The Columbus-based family owned restaurant chain - known for serving small square hamburgers called "sliders" – says a single provision in the bill will eat up roughly 55 percent of its yearly net income after 2014.
Starting that year, the bill levies a $3,000-per-employee penalty on companies whose workers pay more than 9.5 percent of household income in premiums for company-provided insurance.
White Castle, which currently provides insurance to all of its full-time workers and picks up 70 to 89 percent of their premium costs, believes it will likely end up paying those penalties. The financial hit will make it hard for the company to maintain its 421 restaurants, let alone create new jobs, says company spokesman Jamie Richardson. White Castle employs more than 10,000 people nationwide, and more than 1,200 in Ohio.

if they can't figure out how, by 2014, to reduce employee health care costs through a multitude of fashions including more effecient marketing, sourcing better contracts on ingredients, closing the bottom 10% of stores that are operating in the red, etc etc etc then fuck them.

my business doesn't have any guarantee, why should theirs?

and blaming this on Obama is just ridiculous. who do you think pays for those non-covered employees when they hit the ER? <hint- those 'banking' here>

Fuck all of that! The simple solution is to not unconstituionally force health care on EVERY person in the USA.

This.

Companies shouldn't have to drastically restructure so that a liberal can moneyshot their liberal nonsensical policies all over their faces.

Weren't the premiums supposed to get cheaper when "everybody bought in", enough so to cover the 10-20% difference? oh yeah, that part was probably bullshit as usual.

Lets all get stoned, make a movie, and then setup a rebill for it.

I don't give a shit about the political part of this thread... just wanted to say that White Castle is literally the most disgusting "food" I have ever had. I have no clue how that place stayed in business as it is.

so the issue though is the 9.5% of wage towards premiums though right?

maybe I don't understand however isn't the point there that

a) they have a poorly negotiated healthcare plan and are paying too much
b) other employers/competitors are paying much more than their 70-89%
c) their employees are paid so little that even the reasonable payment is more than 10% of their pay.

isn't that the core issue? if not what am I missing

And they are trying to ban all Mickey Ds from giving toys in their happy meals so kids don't have an incentive to eat unhealthy. Um.... don't the parents by those for their kids anyways?

that's fukin bullshit. i almost didnt flunk elementary school cause going to mickeyDs and getting a free toy was an incentive to do well.

That is such crap, they better not, they are trying to restrict this country more and more and they need to stick to the ideal that this is a free country but they keep trying to pen us in even more. Such bullshit.

it's not really obama's fault.. i doubt he or anyone in his administration read a single sentence in that giant ass bill ;/

How does that make it not their fault? Dumbass politicians pass crap without bothering to read it so it's naot their fault? Wtf kind of logic is that?
