Just want to make the point that no one chooses to be a woman or black, but Judaism and Christianity and all other religions are a choice, and all choices are fair game for criticism. You can argue that they aren't choices until you're blue in the face, but it's simply the truth.

In Popeye's defense, hate speech covers these classes: race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, or other characteristic. So yes a religion joke is just as bad. However Popeye, you've just given them good reason not to let up on the jokes.

You are simply wrong here. The only thing in that list that isn't a trait someone is born with is religion. everything else has nothing to do with choice and is therefore outside of the realm of criticism.
You can criticize someone's religion just as much as you can criticize their political party.

Religion is a part of hate speech, and that is accepted by every civilized nation. You may personally think that it's not wrong, but that is probably because you have a bias against religion. Just like racists never think that racist comments are wrong.
That's pretty stupid, a lot of people are not given a choice about their religion (think Islam). Yeah you can argue you technically aren't stuck with it, go ahead. I am not promoting hate crimes or hate speech at all, I simply said that religion should not be classified in the same category as the color of someone's skin. Don't like your religion because of the influence of the demographic in the location you live? MOVE.
Religion is an ideology, race, and gender are genetic fucking traits. They're so far from being similar it's not even funny.
One of the biggest problems in the world is that it's taboo to criticize someone's faith. That's pure bullshit and leaves us stuck with rampant, fucked up ideologies.
