Honest question from a english only ugly american: What makes english better?

I'm just gonna wing it, but I think it's because you have so many damn choices on how to say something. It can be hard to learn but to master it yields great aesthetic rewards. It also takes from so many other languages: French, Viking/Norse, Icelandic, Danish, etc. It's a cosmopolitan language.
