So I've been having problems with my compaq laptop right.. and it's been sent in twice and came back with nothing fixed on it.. so now my very nice ENGLISH SPEAKING quality case manager decided that considering everything I've been going through.. the 2 weeks of it still not getting taken care of.. that they can send me a brand new laptop as a replacement.. yay!

If only it weren't a Compaq...

Cool - I'm thinking about a new laptop too. Any recommendations for a lightweight powerful laptop. Something that I can actually use as a laptop and not leave on my desk b/c it's too much of a hassle to move.. you know what I mean?

Normally it would go some thing like this:

Super portable : pda / tablet / super portable (any thing under 10" screen possibly)
Very portable : any thing smaller than a 15" screen
Portable : the normal 15" screen
Luggable but not really protable : any thing higher than 15"

The deciding factor is what your going to want to do with it, and what features you want. For portability try to find some thing with good battery life or an additional battery.

Go down to a local store (BestBuy CompUSA etc) and telling them you want to get a feel for the type of machine you are looking for. Try carrying around the various models. See what feels comfortable to you, then you'll have an idea of the size and can look for the rest on the internet.

I have this one:

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665064281

And I LOVE it. They actually just announced a replacement with a Core 2 Duo - which is hot. It gets about 8 hours of battery life with the extended battery ($300). It weighs like 3 pounds. It fits in my purse. :) Plus, it has built in Sprint Rev A card, so I have internet no matter where I am.

I have played with about every laptop there is doing reviews and whatnot, and I am totally hooked on this little thing. I still use my big 17" laptop at home, but I love the Sony.

Buy IBM/Lenovo you won't be sorry. I've driven over mine and it still keeps working. Dropped it from 4-5 feet onto tile and it still keeps working. 1.4 inches thick, 5 lbs, 15.4 wide screen, 2.4 GHz core2duo, 2 GB ram.... doens't get much better then that.
