So a tree branch falls on da wifey's car a few weeks ago.

She rents a 2012 Hyundai Accent while her Toyota is being repaired.

The Toyota btw is Not a car that Any real driver would lust over. It is totally devoid of anything -- car guy related.

So she got a 2012 Hyundai Accent. HOLY SHIT! This fucking thing is wickedly precise. It rewards proper driving technique Better than any car I've evah driven that didn't have a rear engine and open wheels.

So any Hyundai drivers out there? What is your impression of these cars?

I mean I'm fuckin stupefied by this piece of shit!

Just this year Hyundai totally redid the Accent. Before 2012 it was the cheapest crap box money could buy. Its gotten great reviews from a lot of big car sites.

I also rented the 2012 and was really impressed. It gets great gas mileage and drove like a dream. So impressive that I tried to find one for a test drive but I actually couldn't find a single SE hatchback in the entire state of Florida.

They have been doing a lot of work on rebranding their cars and upgrading their image.

Hyundai?

I've only heard bad things about Hyundai.

Probably because here in my country the parts are very hard to find and expensive, that is why everyone says they suck.

But I have to correct you, the best driving car is my Passat 1.8T :D. Love it!

I used to drive a 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE, then I totaled it. Guess what I bought? A 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited. I had a VW CC 2.0 Turbo as a rental and while that car was somewhat more fun to drive, just everything about it was uncomfortable and inconvenient.

My new sonata is amazing. Fucking panoramic sunroof is sweet. Heated front and back seats. Dual climate controls. Bluetooth streaming audio/cell connection. Best gas mileage in its class. Comfortable leather seats for long drives. Good stock sound system. Large interior with fold down rear seats. Couldn't be happier!

To each his own, I guess, but seriously, a Hyundai...?

I rented a Hyundai Accent 4 months ago for 3 days while traveling in Norway.
As a BMW owner I found that car amazing, comfortable, cheap, well equipped.
Good experience.

I don't know anything about car models and brands. Never cared. But after starting IM and lusting after the power and ego money can feed, I started noticing cars. I kept commenting on cars as we'd see them, and finally my lady told me that all these different cars I kept mentioning were actually the same car make and model...

The Nissan 350z.

This thing just looks bad ass. So then I get excited because I see a red one parked in our parking lot of the apartment complex. I keep wondering who drives it. Then finally today, I see the driver... It's this 17 year old girl whose dad works the night shift and they drive pieces of shit. But they bought this car for her. *disgust*

I want one. Apparently its only the 370z from now on or something.

i wanted a genesis for a while when it *first* came out.

however I know several people with sonata's and might think of getting one once my dodge gets too many miles on it ( I drive about 700 miles a week ).

The 370z replaced the 350z and IMO looks tons better.

Back in the day I worked for this place and the boss was off in singapore and let me drive his 350z for some reason, I guess he thought I was a cool kid or something. Anyway, decent driver but the hardtops on the 350z look like ass to me.

They changed some of the lines on the 370z and I gotta say... it looks pretty tits. I was surprised they were able to save me on that platform.

Oh and speaking of hyundai, I always hated them UNTIL I rented a sonata for a week to go to the beach. I won't talk shit about them ever again.

It was probably the best rental car I've ever had. I actually wouldn't mind driving the damn thing every day except it's not really my type of car. The new design on them is very nice as well.

I've been pretty surprised with they stuff they've been putting out.

The accent seems too "narrow" of a car, can't stand that. If it was about 8 inches wider I think it would look much better.

Most frustrating car I've ever owned. Here is a list of annoyances:

Some jealous fuck badged the 350Z off the back
Some other jealous fuck kicked off my passenger side mirror
Mirror is $500 to replace....
The navigation system is DVD based, and scratches up needing replacement regularly
I can barely fit luggage in the back
I needed to unbox a tv before I could fit it in the car to take home
Cheapest tires for it were $1,100 balanced/mounted and most places didn't carry them
One of the cup holders was designed badly and snapped off
It's low enough to scrape on *everything*
The seats are torture on long drives
Slower than my R6
You can't see cars behind you for shit, zero visibility even with a head turn

Just to be fair, it has some pros:

When drinking, you can fit five people into it
Traction control makes for lazy fun
Stock sound is pretty good
Mileage can be alright, depending on how aggressive you drive
Sluts like it
Stock exhaust sounds great

Han: The Red Evo's yours
Shawn Boswell: What do you mean?
Han: You're representing me now. What you think, I'm gonna let you roll in a Hyundai? :nopenope:

Why not drop 60K on one? lol Hyundai Equus : | Hyundai

My friend has an elentra and it drives much smoother than my Mazda 3, but of course I bought the Mazda for the sporty features - which exclude a smoother ride.

Because then you are in Benz/BWM territory and the point is lost. The win of the Elantra/Sonata is getting higher end features/qualities/warranty for lower end price. Get your Jew game proper. And that thing is fugly in person.

Not sure if you missed it, but the Equus is 'supposed' to compete with the BMW 750 and the Mercedes S-class. It does a really great job in many areas. It has the optional backseat like the Audi A8 does, maintenance valet service, incredible interior, etc..

I don't think it beats the 750 or S-class, but it does a good job going head to to toe with the 5 series and E-class. Give it 5 more years and it will compete with the proper class.

It's a great car and so is the sonata.

remove the numbers on the plate and it spells lust. just like in the thread title. I have way too much time on my hands.

The years of slangin' shitty cars has probably paid off for them as they invested heavily into R&D, now they're producing decently running machines.

But personally, even if Hyundai made the most badass reliable economical sports car that shits on the Nissan GTR or a Ferrari, I would have second thoughts about lining up for one just because it's a Hyundai.

In the 90's, practically every Hyundai was a piece of shit. I'm pretty sure they used Mitsubishi engines and other technologies and basically put a bang up car together for cheap, correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the 2012 Accent your girl rented, I think any car will appear to be really awesome if they're brand spanking new out of the factory.

It's after 20,000-30,000 miles on the clock is when you can really comment how good the car has been for you.

I've heard Hyundai's now days aren't THAT bad and are in fact on par with comparable models to those of Honda and Toyota, but obviously when it comes to overall reliability, they probably have a while to go to get the reputation that Toyota has which is that they're usually bulletproof.
