Ok So I admit it -- I lust over a Fuckin Hyundai

I don't know about overseas but here in the U.S Hyundai will never be a "luxury" brand. Their stigma is horrid here. If they were smart they would have spun off a luxury brand like Toyota did with Lexus, or Nissan did with Infiniti. With that said Hyundai's are really nice cars until you hit about 45k miles... then shit starts falling apart. I can only imagine what my mom's 2011 Sonata is going to be like at 100k.

my father in law has a 2003 sonata it has 200k miles on it and it's held up fine. Their cars are a lot better now, their engineering is pretty good.

I cannot see ever buying a Hyundai.

If you follow the proper rule of thumb the price of your car should not exceed your monthly cash flow.

If your monthly cash flow is enough for a new Hyundai, then let's face it, you are not going to buy a Hyundai.

If your monthly cash flow is not enough for a new Hyundai, then let's face it, you are not going to buy a used Hyundai.

If you violate any of the above I can only ask...... why?

Perhaps. But also lets face it, your comments does not make the majority of first hand observations in this thread untrue.

I don't know anything about car models and brands. Never cared. But after starting IM and lusting after the power and ego money can feed, I started noticing cars. I kept commenting on cars as we'd see them, and finally my lady told me that all these different cars I kept mentioning were actually the same car make and model...

The Nissan 350z.

This thing just looks bad ass. So then I get excited because I see a red one parked in our parking lot of the apartment complex. I keep wondering who drives it. Then finally today, I see the driver... It's this 17 year old girl whose dad works the night shift and they drive pieces of shit. But they bought this car for her. *disgust*

I want one. Apparently its only the 370z from now on or something.

That's just a standard one too. They're even better with a bit of work:

They're still around £10k ($16k) over here for an average example though, and insurance is ridiculously high.

Wow, so most folks here have a favorable overall impression of these cars.

Image aside.

Hmmm.

Thanks for responding, btw.

Hyundais are like fat girls and scooters.........
Maybe.

But if you have a clue about performance driving and need a 15K ballet partner: you could do a lot worse for the money.

PS: just don't run this thing into the scenery.

PSS: The dude that had to have a chick tell him what a 350Z is. Dude start at my first post and work your way up from there. Please!

I saw the post about 200K on a Hyundai - and yes I know a guy that had a Buick at 200K also - for the Buick it is an exception - is 200K for the Hyundai and exception or the rule?

I am open to change my opinion - but until you can afford repairs you do not know what your future holds - a young person may get rich and go broke several times before they settle on stable income - especially in this biz - why wouldn't that person get a Toyota? 400K miles no problem just change the oil, belts, and brake pads - that's it.

Toyota is a rock soilid, bullet proof car.

But It has No personality. None. It does Not reward the effort one has to put in to turn a windy road into a work of art.

The Hyundai does -- so I was just pointing out this Fact.

But hey if you don't think driving is fun. Than get a Toyota. I can assure you it won't be.

I hear you on the Toyota & feeling the road.

For fun driving, and if you are young, a used 3-series can be had for the same price as the Hyundai.

But then again I would rather have a 2004 Lexus SC430 (or 2008 RX350) with 90,000 miles for my wife than a new Hyundai - both same price and I am guessing the Lexus will outlast the Hyundai. But that's me.

^^This^^

I have a 1998 328i and it's starting to show its age but it drives beautifully at 300k and still going strong. These E36 BMW's can be had now for less than 5 g's. and with 5's invested in fixing it up, are well worth it as they are a treat to drive.

as for toyota and you guys saying its not fun to drive, i guess none of you have ever been behind the wheel of a twin turbo supra? much better then then the TT Z or TT RX-7

Personally I was referring to the more modest offerings from Toyota; the Matrix, the corolla, even the camry. I mean I was talking about a $15K car in my original post.

And no I haven't driven a supra in a long time.

Having said that I'd be surprised if the Supra is not similar the rest of their lineup. Typically car companies use the same r&d drivers across their model lines and have a feel they are shooting for.

And Dude the Toyota feel is Fucking lifeless -- trust me on this one, ok?

The Hyundai was easy to steer with the throttle and responded predictably. It always did the same thing the same way. This is a trait that inspires confidence.

No, I didn't beat the shit out of it and really drive it at its limit. The wife smells and listens to her cars after I bring them back -- hehe. And I promised her I wouldn't trash it. I did however drive it flatout down a local windy parkway and it stunned me with its precision.

A car that has been driven hard smells (mostly of spent brake pads) and makes a fair amount of noise as its' cooling off in the driveway, btw.

We have two Hyundai in our family: 04 Tiburon GT and 06 Sonata. Both are still doing well and have had only minor issues that most cars have. Definitely a great value overall. I had a gut feeling Hyundai would have a huge turn around from their negative PR in the 90s. Wish I invested in their stock!

I used to have a Hyundai Coupe (Tiburon in the US).

I fucking loved it and the interior was better than any new car i've had, including my BMW.

The thing drove really well and was pretty damn sporty round the corners. Hyundai make very very reliable and great handling cars, those who say otherwise probably have never owned / driven one and are too self concious about a stupid badge to consider them.
