First, no gay ass comments about the art form itself okay?

Anyway, apparently I have been sleeping under a rock, but today I discovered Eglise Gutierrez a cuban saprano (political comment: it sucks that country has so much talent that ends up having to leave because they can't find good opportunities at home.........) - anyway, she just FLOORED me with her voice of pure perfection!!

Holy shit! I don't think "pure perfection" quite describes it. Thanks for sharing that Ridd. I'm always on the look out for new music.
 
Yes this is great. I love opera but haven't been able to enjoy it too much in the past. Try to play La straniera in a Marine barracks and see what happens.

I haven't watched the video yet but it should be noted that telling us no gay ass comments is an invitation, nay a dare, to do our worst.
 
Update: saw the video. Musical preferences aside, still not impressed with opera.

Point in case. You can take any song whether it be rock country or even pop and turn it into a opera song just by raising or lowering it an octave, drawing out each note to 10-15 seconds and vibrating your throat.

I'm not a fan of opera, but I have to say that's not quiiiite true.

Opera is basically a more grandiose style of conventional theater so a direct relation/comparison really can't be made to pop music. It's closest cousin would be something like Victorian theater.

The reason that Opera has survived for so long and has such respect is because the show has to live up the same criteria as theaters and movies (plot, acting, etc) as well as that of a concert (musicians, singing performance, etc). And the level of intricacies involved are exponentially more extravagant than any musical.

So yeah, not quite the same.
 
Great voice, boring for me though. Just what I needed to get me tired enough for bed.

...Interesting historical perspective. I also think it allows for a damned good night out - or for one in for that matter (and it doesn't have to be that expensive....)!

Actually I never really knew about the latter until I found some opera DVD's of my ex-boyfriends lying around. The funny thing is he had them tucked away the way you know you guys normally hide your porn when you first start dating/getting serious with a woman and she comes over for the first time....lol

Anyway, I was like "wow are these yours?!" and it was so funny he started stammering like I was asking him if he used to pee in the bed as a child or stutter, haha!
