The webspam team loves SEO service providers. The majority of SEO service providers teach the majority of their customers there's no ROI on buying SEO services. Those that don't give the webspam team big, obvious footprints. And when a service provider causes enough of a problem, their MO now is to inflict financial pain, point fingers, and name names, so your seoroundtables and moz's and stuff talk and create that groundswell of bad buzz, and the service providers are forced to issue refunds or watch their brand be destroyed.
My favorite example is sap links. The average seo service customer has gone from "I don't know what sape links are but I hear they let you rank for difficult keywords" to "I don't know what sape links are but I hear they get all your sites deindexed" in spite of the sap resellers and their sockpuppets' frantic "they still work!"
