OnStar begins spying on customers

I'm curious as to where all the libertarians on the board will stand on this. :)
I'll take your smiley as a sign of sarcasm... :jester:

This shouldn't Surprise anyone of course... If 750 Million users of Facebook are all stupid enough to live with the intrusions they do it seems that GM wouldn't lose one nights' sleep over the privacy concerns on this one... Clearly the intended user is dumb enough.

I was never going to consider any american cars anyway, so no biggie to me.

From the article:
"This is too shady, especially for a company that you’re supposed to trust your family to. My vehicle’s location is my life, it’s where I go on a daily basis. It’s private. It’s mine. I shouldn’t have to have a company like OnStar steal my personal and private life just to purchase an emergency response service. Taking my private life and selling it to third party advertisers, law enforcement, and God knows who else is morally inept. Shame on you, OnStar. You disgust me.".

Yep, that about sums it up.

We just eat up the new technology with a spoon and fork and beg for more. When are we gonna realize that with each new invasive tool we are losing more and more of our privacy. Convenient or not, is it really worth it?

As soon as I read that I emailed them and asked how I opt-out. And if there is no opt-out I notified them I will be cancelling.

I have young kids - it's no one's damn business where/when my family and I are at a certain location.

Go ahead and cancel, it doesn't matter. They'll still sell your info and make a mint off it.

This was clearly Sarah Palin's idea. She wants to know where Hellblazer is at all times incase the liberals try to kidnap him and braid little colorful beads into his hair.

It doesnt matter if you opt out you need to actually physically disconnect the unit (usually in trunk) and then pull your cell phone battery if you dont want people to have the ability to track you.

Ha! Ain't that the truth! out of the tens of thousands folks that have OnStar, maybe we can get 2 or 3 hundred who see this as any problem - I tell ya, we just take what they give us and beg for more.
