Hi there, as per the title, another drama thread, makes a change at least from all the EWA threads.

Not a huge amount of money ($250, $125 taken), however, I don't like people stealing from me.

Ookie on here: http://www.wickedfire.com/members/ookie.html on the 29th December agreed to redesign my site for me. Nothing too bad, homepage + post page.

I sent the money on the 31st, and got final requirements to him on the 5th January. Over 3 weeks later, not even a mockup in paint. I'll let these screenshots do the rest of the talking.

(bit late, I know - was meant to be posted 5 hours ago. Midnight is vague, so I gave the 24 hours. Also, I just spotted the $150 error on both our parts, my bad.)

Just start using elance and never look back. This guy sounds like an idiot and you could have gotten an indian for the same price without the hassle.

I think twice, ended up ok those times, but that was a fair while ago.

And yeah, normally I would've responded to that, but I wanted to keep the vague hope of getting my design.

To be fair about the drinking, it was his first time getting drunk, I thought I'd let him have his fun. Although on the logo, fair enough, I prefer that to someone who tells me everything is awesome :)

Thanks. And yeah, didn't think of Dreamache for this, or I probably would've. While Hyper6 makes awesome stuff, it was slightly the wrong style for this.

So a web design costs $700 or $1000 or so. If you run any significant traffic to it that will pay for itself pretty fucking quickly with a decent % conversion rate improvement.

Alex is an awesome web designer :) It's just different web designers have different styles, and his particular style wasn't what I was looking for on this particular project.
 
LOL welfare. Sounds like he's seeing vast success in web design and is totally worth the money. Maybe instead of going to a friend's house, smoking kush and getting laid (jerking off in buddy's bathroom) he should work on the site you already made payment on.
 
Sad thing is that ookie is pretty good on the design side. I've used him quite a few times a year ago. Kid just needs to grow up and learn how to be responsible.
 
Just to balance out the opinions - your conversation never looked promising. You are both joking around and you are sending your important requirements amidst all the dumb shit you two are talking. You also seem to initially be in a bent-down position aka "weee I'm so drunk, let's do business if you want! here's my money, remind me tomorrow!".

It's not really clear from that chat who is who's bitch at first. Only later you suddenly shift and stop being his bro and start demanding stuff. I'm not saying someone should always be the bitch, but you should have some discipline when you are talking to contractors, jokes aside.

Otherwise the irresponsible ones will start fucking about. Because you tempt them to fuck about.

Yeah, shitty situation - although I kinda agree a bit with this Joe.

You should have established a date for delivery upfront for example. You don't confirm your expectations upfront as to delivery, and then never give him an ultimatum until it's escalated for a fair bit of time. You suddenly go from being quite pally to an ultimatum, which is likely to generate a massive negative reaction and reduce the chances of him doing anything. A "fuck this Joe guy, what a prick" kinda reaction.

Not really someone I'd choose to work with, especially now that we've got this showing he doesn't deliver on shit, and that previous thread pretty much illustrating he doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself.

Elance, Odesk, etc. are a total crap shoot and you can waste a bunch of time vetting people only to wind up with hassle and mediocre results from an Indian.
 
^^ seems like the GEO crapshootlist should be added with new territories, so that India would not feel undeservingly lonely
