Peasant Spotting

okay so I'm not rich, but I also haven't had a regular job for two years. Does that make me not a peasant, even though my income level is 100% peasantry?

Peasantry has nothing to do with income level.

I was born poor and went broke twice. A lot of successful people have a bankruptcy or business failure in their history, it's part of the learning process.

If you're small minded, if you don't contribute, if you don't stand for something, if you resent other people doing well, if you accept mediocrity, if you don't act to change your life (aspiration is not action!), if you make excuses, if you ask for permission etc you may be a peasant.

Not to nitpick their article too much but the 1st one on the list...

Average people think MONEY is the root of all evil. Rich people believe POVERTY is the root of all evil.

If "average" people do indeed believe that, it's because they're misquoting the book it came from. It's love of money that is said to be the root of all evil, and the original greek word is more bent to meaning greed and money more bent toward "filthy lucre" - they had many different words for types of love whereas English we squash it into one word and allow for the context to define the actual meaning. The "greed" problem can afflict an average or rich person.

Average people see money through the eyes of emotion. Rich people think about money logically.

I'm usually around pretty wealthy people, used to hang more with what I guess they call "average" people, and in my 12 step groups had the luxury of having both sets mashed together.

What I learned is I've never met anyone who is logical - including myself no matter how many spreadsheets, mindmaps and zeros I add to my bank account.

The people who tend to tout how logical they are, seem to be anything but once I get to know them better. Rich people do see how to use money to get more or keep what they have better... but that's because they have a mindset more focused on money (not a bad thing, per se), not because they are more logical or some more elevated level of being.


despite me picking at a couple - most of the rest are pretty spot-on from my perspective... pretty good checklist to check my parenting against as my kids get older
