I want to fade a layer from 100% opaque to 0% opaque and I was wondering if there's any way to do this, maybe with some kind of opacity gradient or something?

use the regular gradient tool - white to transparent - fill on a new layer, then set the opacity of that layer to whatever works for you

what what what?! there's more than one way to do things in photoshop! :D

i like fatbat's solution better. especially if you have to see things below the layer. there's a few considerations to make (are you using a layer mask already - not as good of a solution). you could always make an overlay or something too.

Or click on your layer, then right click on it, then select blending options, then play with the gradient tab, and/or opacity from the main tab.

So many different ways to do it.

How do you use layer masks?

And for Aequitas' idea, wouldn't that just affect the entire layer rather than fading parts of it?
