So, I had an in person lunch meeting with someone I met on wickedfire (someone currently with over 600 posts and a positive rating) around 8 months ago. We discussed each others businesses, something that I now know, and have heard many times before, is a big mistake. But he seemed like a good guy, and I'm apparently a moron...so...yeah.

A month later I find a new competitors website competing for the same keywords. The website catches my eye because it's near fuckin identical. Copied our prices, basically the same design, everything. Do some research, and I find out it's the piece of shit I met...or according to the piece of shit, it's the "partner" of the piece of shit I met. Other than tell him how unimpressed I am, I didn't do anything at the time. Didn't really think I could do anything.

But now this piece of shit has gone too far. We created a new big ecommerce site, with 300+ products, and 300 pages of quality content from a very good in-house writer we hired. The old website only showcased one product, which is also located on the new site, but not featured. This project has been 6 months in the making, and between the writer, the web development, and the product sourcing/testing it has been a $50k+ investment. Today I find out, that some PIECE OF SHIT has copied this website identically.

I'm not just talking about taking our idea, and making slight changes. I'm talking about the dumbfuck has in some places forgotten to take our phone number off the page. I clicked on the on site chat to ask for a quote on a product...and noticed that the message showed up in my fuckin online chat. That our 300 pages of content is copied word for word, with every link the same, and every image the same. The only difference is he has in some places correctly changed our phone number with his phone number, and the online orders and online forms go to him.

The dumb fuck is even advertising some of our customized products, with our labels on the products on his site, but other products are generic in nature (copied from our site, but generic in nature). Doing some research, I find out the site links back to the first aforementioned copied piece of shit website....IT'S THE SAME PIECE OF SHIT COPYING US AGAIN!

My question is...what should I do to this PIECE OF SHIT?
 


Out him and call an attorney. This can get handled pretty quickly. They will probably send a Cease and Desist order that day. I doubt he has the money to go through a lawyer war.

Epically if he stole your idea and couldn't fund it himself to come up with. Dude is probably broke.

My question with the whole lawyer thing...is can we get any reprecussions other than just providing him with a cease and desist? If that's the only benefit, I'm sure I can just call the asshole and tell him to take it down or else...and he will, and not spend any money on a lawyer.

But my problem is I know he will just find a cheap way to change the site slightly enough to steal all of our products and keep competing. Is there any way to hurt this fucker, so that he stops copying everything we do?

Other than outing him and sending a DMCA request does not seem you have much of a recourse here. Anything can be copied with impunity.
